  1. Depending where you live, it can be difficult to find a place, but not impossible. Check with local health foods stores, organic markets and vegan/vegetarian groups and shops.  Someone can usually give you a name or two.  That's how I discovered that some regular bakeries are able to make vegan cakes, but you have to make a bunch of phone calls to find them.  Break out the yellow pages if you have to. Some people I contacted were downright rude about it, but when I finally found the bakery that was able to make my cake, they were really quite accomodating.

They only make one kind of vegan cake (chocolate with whipped frosting), but that was good enough for me.  I was just glad to find someone to do it.   They made us an entire cake to sample, and it was absolutely delicious.  I can't wait to announce that the cake is cholesterol-free in September! :)

  2. get a carrot-cake wedding cake

  3. Well, that depends on where you live.  There ARE vegan bakeries and bakers who provide wedding cakes, but they're not exactly on every street corner.

If you go to an actual vegan forum (like http://www.theppk.com ) and let people there know where you are, you might find that someone can recommend a baker or caterer who can do what you need.

Or you can go to a bakery in your area and ask them if they'd be willing to do a vegan cake.  All they'd really need is a recipe for the cake and a recipe for the frosting and those are readily available in cookbooks and online.

  4. Congratulations!  Depending on where you live, you may have to do some searching, but if you google 'vegan wedding cake' or 'vegan bakery', you'll find a number of places.  I'm including one of the links that I found when I did the above searches.

    Good luck!

  5. I just got married about a month ago and my husband is a vegan. We ordered a big non-vegan cake for our guests, and I made a smaller, fancier vegan wedding cake for us. I used a vegan chocolate cake recipe and Pillsbury vanilla icing, then covered and decorated it with store bought fondant (the homemade kind requires milk). A lot of guests ended up wanting a piece of the vegan cake!

    vegan chocolate cake:

    1 1/2 cups flour

    1 cup sugar

    1/3 cup cocoa

    1 1/2 tsp vanilla

    1/2 cup oil

    1 1/2 tsp vinegar

    1 tsp baking soda

    1 cup cold water

mix all ingredients and bake at 350 for about 1/2 hour
