Does anyone know of meat free and/or dairy free options at chain and local restaurants?

I'm in the bay area, and when I search for that kind of stuff all that comes up is Indian food, which I'm not a huge fan of.

  1. My cousin lives in the bay area and  she chinese food rice with lots of veggies. They don't put eggs if you don't want them to. Also any place like jack in the box and in - n - out will make your sandwhich without meat if you don't want it..and tend to replace it with a veggetarian sauce and veggies. You just gotta ask!! and be careful.

I think she says lots of italian and asian places offer veggie plates too...noodles with veggies, mushrooms, tofu. Just gotta get out there

  2. go to the website of the restaurant you are interested in.  most chain restaurants have their menus posted online.

also, most of the major national chains have vegetarian options these days, so you shouldn't have a problem finding one that does!

    good luck

yeah you're going to have a hard time finding something that is made separate from the meat items, which sucks.  mcdonalds does not use animal fats to deep fry, but the fryers could be used for other things, such as chicken nuggets.  sorry :(

  3. you can go anywhere. if you are in the bay area, mcdonalds probably has garden burgers. I am in seattle, which is a lot like the bay area(in some ways) and some of the McDonalds have them here. But i don't really eat there.

any asian place will offer tofu instead of meat.

  4. Get your veggie burger at Burger King, they use a rotating grate over a gas fired grill, that is cleaned by fire with each rotation, so no meat is left on it where the veggie burger is cooked. From what I know, they don't add anything to their veggie oil either.

I personally don't care much for fast food. My favorite veggie places are Italian, Asian and Greek restaurants.

  5. here is a site i found that might help

btw, burgerking uses morning star veggie burgers that contain dairy products and are not vegan

  6. i am just as mystified as you!!! i love to go out with friends but my choices are so limited...usually a salad and i have been reduced to carrying my own dressings just in case (small container in purse along with some vegan spread) As far as fast food goes just consider it taboo since nothing is vegan....last week my sister took me to Applebees and i ended up having a martini with extra olives and eating when i got home...not to mention our waitress was a total b!%@# and kinda hostile when i was asking her for some suggestions....it is soooo frustrating!!!!

  7. Burger King has a veggie burger.

  8. I also live in the Bay Area and yes there are a ton of Veggie Indian places.  But there are many other options available to you.

This website was a lifesaver to me:http://www.vegetarian-restaurants.net/Ot...

There are lots of vegan Buddhist Asian food places in our area.  I can think of quite a few in the South Bay, East Bay, and San Fran, but I'm not quite sure about the North Bay.

For vegan Asian cuisine in Oakland, San Fran, and San Jose visit here:http://www.godsdirectcontact.org.tw/eng1...

Also consider checking out the many Middle Eastern and Mediterranean restaurants in the area.  The have tons of vegan things like:  falafel, hummus, baba ganoush, cucumber salad, dolmas, veggie wraps, etc.

Click on my profile and email me if you need specific restaurants to go to.

  9. What about Italian?  Many of their sauces and soups contain no meat.  Some Asian dishes, especially Thai and  Indonesian, have no meat.  Most Mexican restaurants aso have meat-free options.
