  1. Go and consult your physiscian, especially if you have not had this happen before.good luck.

  2. Protein. I had gastric bypass surgery and though not vegan, was unable to get enough protein and my hair started thinning. Try edamamae, soy, and lots of beans!

  3. It may have nothing at all to do with your diet.  I know lots of omni's with thinning hair as well.

  4. It probably has nothing to do with your being vegan--my hair has always grown like weeds, and my going vegan didn't change that.  Some thinning hair is also age related.

  5. Hair needs protein, zinc, vitamin A, biotin, iron, and a number of other vitamins & minerals for good health. Healthy hair should be thick, strong, and shiny.

As a vegan make sure you are getting enough protein every day from nuts, beans, wholegrains, and so on. Increase your protein intake. Remember to have a range of proteins to make sure you get a variety of amino acids.

From a cosmetic perspective, avoid weakening the hair shaft -so no colouring, bleaching, or excessive combing. Also, avoid brushing wet hair, as this can cause hair thinning to occur.

Hair problems sometimes take a while to sort out. It takes a long time for a healthy diet to be reflected in the condition of your hair. So persevere. Also I would recommend seeing a doctor to rule out any possible nutritional deficiencies.

Remember that there are a number of nutrients essential for healthy hair. Here are some foods that will promote healthy hair by delivering the nutrients your body needs. Try to eat them every day if you can:

-Almonds, for B vitamins, vitamin E and essential fats. High in protein too. All of which helps your hair. Sounds strange, but make sure you eat enough fat (from nuts)

-Fruit & vegetables- Biotin & vitamin C to counteract brittle, dull hair. Needed for hair strength. Eat as much fruit and vegetables as you can. (It's great that you like smoothies- these will help)

-Beans- even baked beans- High protein, full of B vitamins, a very nourishing, nutritious food.

-Fortified spreads containing vitamin A. Also carrot juice. Your body will convert the beta carotene into vitamin A, needed for thick hair.

-Fortified breakfast cereal every day, such as Weetabix. Make sure it has added iron and B vitamins.

-Soya has been shown to stimulate hair growth. Use soymilk on your morning cereal. Also include rice milk in your diet, or oat milk.

The best tip for healthy hair- *variety*. It's best to get a range of different foods into your diet. Research vegan recipies on the internet. Try out new foods that you haven't tried before.

Remember to see a doctor, but with a little dietary adjustment, I'm sure you'll be fine.

    Good luck =]
