I'm a passionate vegan and animal rights supporter and I want to become a beauty therapist. What are the wax ingredients they use? I heard some contain honey, is this true? is it possible to be a vegan beauty therapist? please help!

  1. Wax can be made of beeswax, but more and more often now there are plant sources of wax being used.

I am sure it is possible to be a vegan beautician, but if you want to run your own shop that's 100% vegan you'd have to simply check ingredients and learn suppliers you can rely on to not use animal ingredients. Creams, lotions and make-up can not only have beeswax but animal fats and derivatives, so it's good to start familiarizing yourself now with reliable companies.

It's possible though, there is a vegan-owned candle and beauty supply booth that travels along with a home and garden convention show. Whenever the convention comes to my area I go. They list all their ingredients very clearly, and if they have a chemical compound name, such as tetrahydroxy-EDTA, which might sound strange but it is actually a strain of the tetracycline antibiotics used to make hand lotions and sprays "antibacterial". It's fungus based, and this company lists (fungal source) in parentheses next to the chemical name.
