DARE I ask this again, but I NEED vegan margarine/butter (doesnt matter what) that I could find at one of the following stores FOR SURE:

IGA

Extra Foods

Super A

Wal-Mart

I cant really think of what else we have here in this stupid area... but I could possible get to SuperStore, which is almost the same as Extra Foods, like every month or 2. we also have a family foods here, although i dont think that is a main chain food store or w/e. oh and there is a Nutters too, but I don't know if I could get there often.

Oh and if you can, is there possibly any CHEAP soy or rice milk brands, you KNOW will be at one of those places, other than SO Good, or So Nice for soy at wal-mart?

Oh, we have a Fields, but I dont know if they sell food or not...

  1. Like someone said earlier Earth Balance is a common one found at a greater amount of stores.... also Soy Garden, which can be found around here in Safeways and such.

  2. Call the store, ask for the dairy department and find out.

  3. silk soy products are good priced

as for the butter if you are unable to find it locally, order it offline, prehaps from amazon.com

  4. I live in a small town, and I usually have to just wait until I get a chance to go to one of the bigger towns or cities around here and get it then at the health store. I will sometimes make special trips for it, but only if I need it. It's worth it sometimes though :)

  5. Depends on the area that you live in.

When I was up visiting my late husband's people in Mississippi - I had a difficult time finding certain things that I needed.

My former used "Parkay" all the time - but then he wasn't a real strict vegetarian/vegan either.

I use - - not sure of the brand name - but mixed with olive oil - helps with cholesterol.

You could buy "Earth Balance" which is vegan - but it is pretty expensive in my opinion - at least $1.00 more than everything else.

If they don't have it - REQUEST that they get it in the store for you.  Most stores will do this for you now days.  If they won't - the only other option that you have is to order what your looking for from online - not hard to do and it arrives pretty quick.

As to soy and rice milk brands - you mention the Walmart brand if not mistaken - I don't shop Walmart for ethical reasons.  I can tell you that I noticed this week that the prices have risen for both of those 'milk' types.  Could be because of the cost of gas - not sure - who knows.  I just know that it cost more to buy this week.

Personally - I buy what is cheapest.  I buy in the paper waxed paper containers and not from the refrigeration section - longer shelf life and no need to refrigerate till opened.  I have some brands that I prefer over others - some that I don't like at all and don't buy - but that is a personal choice that is based on taste.  Your taste may very well not be the same as mine.  I do make sure that I don't buy the ones that are not marked that they are 'not geneticly modified' - again - a personal choice on my part.

  6. Costco carries Organic Earth Balance Margarine. If you don't care about organic or hydrogenated foods most of the margarine in the Supermarkets fits your profile. You will have to comparison shop  fo the best pices on Soy Milk -- the markets run specials too often to keep track.
