Question:

Vegan festivals question extended??

I'd really love to go to the vegan festival in London this year. However, I'm the only vegan in my household (the rest eat meat! shameful LOL).

I've never been to a vegan festival before and I've never been to London or out of my home town ever!! Let alone on my own.

I'm worried I'd get lost and panic. I'm only sixteen.

What should I do? I really want to go.

  1. Get mum or dad to take you!  I would be scared to go to London at 16 too!  You are far too young to be travelling alone.

Who knows, they could even become converts ;o)

Good luck.  And good for you for being a vegan at such a young age!  Huge respects to you!

  2. Well done for being an Only Vegan, and congrats on having intelligent, supportive parents!

I would not recommend going to London for the first time on your own. If your folks are willing, that's a great idea - maybe hook it up with a family celebration of some kind?

Or have you any vegan friends who your folks know and trust enough to accompany you?

If none of these is an option for this year, afraid you'll have to wait till next year. Suggest you join the Vegan Society, they could put you in touch with other vegans in your area, so you have someone to go with in future. There'll be other festivals and celebrations, don't worry.

All good wishes for your future!

  3. If you're not far out of London, you should be able to get there easily enough. When I was sixteen, I frequently travelled to London on my own and I was fine. What area do you live in? I may be able to give you travel directions.

You will be fine at the festival on your own. It takes place in Kensington Town Hall and it's all very safe. I saw that you've posted questions about vegan cheese and chocolate. You will be able to taste these and buy them at the festival.

All I would say is, like any area, make sure you are holding on to your bag carefully and do not put it down anywhere. Make sure your purse/wallet is hidden deep in your bag. London, like any city, does have it's pickpockets. And go early, before it gets too crowded.

  4. Contact the group putting it on and see if they'll arrange a Vegan "Buddy" for you to escort you during the show including around the town.

And don't worry or panic. That's when the problems start. If you stay cool you can pretty much figure anything out. You'll be fine. I did things like this when I was 14. You'll feel  great after. Go and have fun. :)
