Question:

Vegan foreign dessert?

This may be an odd request, but the foreign langauge festival is coming up, and we need to make a food for it. I am more of a baker than a cook, and I have a major sweet tooth, so I want something sweet. Im a vegetarian, and my friend is allergic to eggs, milk, and any other dairy product. Any ideas? Preferably something french, but anything is fine.

  2. I had this great middle eastern dessert.

    Had rice, sugar, honey*, saffron, sliced pistachio and cinnamon on top.

    [*I know, not vegan to some, but that's what was in it.]

  3. Here's a recipe for some really simple chocolate mousse.  You could probably multiply this to serve a lot of people and serve in a large bowl.  If you have a Whole Foods, pick up some vegan whipped topping to add to the top before serving.

    1 pkg Non-dairy Instant chocolate pudding mix

    1 1/4 Cup Soy milk

    1 pkg MORI-NU, Tofu, silken, soft

    Blend the chocolate pudding mix and the soy milk on medium speed for about 15 seconds until the mixture is very smooth.



    Add the silken tofu and blend again. Scrape the mixture down off the sides to be sure it’s all mixed in. Blend and scrape until well mixed and very smooth.



    Pour mixture into 4 small serving dishes.



    Place in the fridge. Chill for at least 2 hours before serving.

  4. poached pear or baked fruit.

    You can poach the pear in mulled wine which is nice or I do a saffron poached pear

    peel pears and put in a pot then fill pot to cover pears with water- to water add saffron threads-go easy, have a strong flavour and it builds as you poach, use like a gram for 4 pears, you can always add more later.

    throw in cinnamon stick, couple of cloves, couple star anice, few cardoman pods, one vanilla bean and orange rind- also a little fresh oj can be good, put in alot of white sugar and poach till soft- about an hour, take pears out and reduce the liquid with more sugar to make a sauce.-easy and different

  5. you can basically substitute eggs with egg white and 1 Tbs Flour, milk can be exchanged with soy or rice milk, butter can be exchanged with applesauce. You just have to adjust the baking time and temperate (shorter and a little cooler) test with a tooth pick, if it is done.
