Hello I became vegan about 3 weeks ago and I have never ever felt better in my life. i did it cold turkey and its amazing! The one thing i am facing is people's insults and even though I doesn't bother me it bothers me that they are so closed minded.

okay when people say humans need meat for protein what do i say? or what about when people say we need dairy for our bones?

What are other forms of protein?

Also why do you think people aren't supposed to eat meat and dairy.

just tell me about the questions you get and how you answer them because I am sick of people and how they can't respect my decision. I don't question theirs.

  1. I'm not a vegetarian but there are lots of foods that are high in protein. You just have to make sure you actually eat them. Soy, beans, nuts, lentils...You can also get calcium from other sources, like a lot of dark green veggies have a lot of calcium. You also need to watch your vitamin D intake - you get that from the sun and from supplements.

The reason I think people aren't neccesarily SUPPOSED to have milk (even though I drink it, haha) is because when you look at animals, none of them drink milk after they are babies and they NEVER drink mikl from another animal. Plus milk protein is hard for people to digest...that is why so many people are lactose intolerant.

You are going to have to get use to people insulting vegan because people get very passionate about their meat, haha. Just shrug it off or say you don't want to talk about it. Or try and educate yourself as much as possible so you have some facts to throw at them. There are features of humans that tell that they ARE meat eaters but you don't have to be one if you have the right knowledge.

  2. In your heart, do you really think that they are concerned about how much protein you take in?  They are just razzing you.  Don't broadcast that you are vegan, just be it.  Do you broadcast that you have b***s everyday?  I don't think so.  Don't fuel the fire.  If you choose to do this, then do it in the privacy of your own body.  It isn't really a topic for conversation unless you are talking to other vegans.

  3. im a veggie and i hate the way people are so close minded aswell, like when people ask WHY am i veggie- do i need a reason??? you do not need meat for protien as you get loads in soya or tofu and you dont need calcium to have good bones as long as you are getting enough vitimins and minirals.if being a veggie or vegan is wrong than why is there proven facts that we live longer than meat eaters.good link with some vegan myths http://sugarrocket.com/vegan/vegan-myths...

  4. Ask them if they ever see fat, balding men watching the telly all day, munching on CARROT STICKS. That ought to shut them up.

  5. Well, if people insult you, I don't think you should waste your precious time or energy on them. That being said, though, there are LOTS of nonanimal sources of protein. Nuts and legumes immediately come to mind.

  6. Do some research on nutrition on other sites, for your own health, and so you can  confidently tell them you know for a fact your diet is perfectly healthy.

You will also find people claim our bodies are designed to eat meat, God said we should eat meat, etc. etc.  You'll get used to it, and with time you'll learn how to respond without making a big deal out of it.

Here's a cute little video on why humans are not carnivores:

  7. Hey, being a vegan is fine...but we have canines in our mouth for a reason.

Come to Canada.  KFC Canada ust settled a lawsuit with PETA; PETA will leave KFC Canada alone, and KFC will buy chickens from places that gas instead of lop their heads of.  And apparently KFC Canada agreed to offer vegan chicken....um, yeah tofu chicken....I ain't eatting it, but all the best to you.

  8. I have to ask, why do you need help in giving reasons why you became a vegan? I mean, if you decided to be one, then you must have your own reasons right? Can't yo just eell them why you became vegan and leave it at that? Unless you yourself are unsure why you became one, then there is no reason why you have to use other people. What is the point of giving reasons which are not your own? If you do not know what the reasons are, then how and why did yo become one in the first place?  What motivated you? What made you change? What caused you to change?

The answers to those questions should suffice. If they can't handle that, then it's their problem not yours. Arguing with these idiots just tells them you are of the same intellectual level as they are.

  9. Don't bother arguing with them.  Just say "to each their own" and be done with it.  They aren't serious, they're just bothering you.  Maybe they feel guilty and they're trying to suppress it.

  10. To me, what you want and choose to eat is as personal as what religion you choose.  There will always be bullys to tease you about anything you choose....just ignore them I guess.

  11. I don't especially have an answer but you really should tell people to butt out! Who are they to judge your food choices?? Don't let it bother you and stick to your guns!

I am a meat eater but I would never judge others for being vegan. And actually dairy foods are not all that good for you. There is more calcium in other nuts/seeds and veg than in milk. Why do we persist in this myth that the stuff that comes out of a cow's udders is the best food for humans!

You can get lots of protein from nuts and seeds by the way.

Don't let people upset you - if they feel the need to insult your food choices are they really worth listening to?

    Good luck. x

  12. For the protein comments:

Inform them that the Standard American Diet (and the diet of many other westerners as well) actually contains too much protein - especially the kind that is derived from animal sources. A veg*n diet provides the body with the *correct* amount of protein. And not only that, but our sources are much easier for the liver, kidneys and digestive tract.

Beans, legumes, tofu and grains are great sources of protein.

    For the dairy argument:

Large consumptions of dairy products actually contribute to osteoporosis. Vitamins and minerals are leched from our bones in order to break down the properties of milk, cheese, eggs, etc. There are many other plant sources of calcium.

Personally, if you look at humans (anatomically) and compare them to animals in the wild, we are clearly not designed to eat meat. From our non-sharp grinding teeth, to our long digestive tracts and weak stomach acid...we just are not supposed to consume that stuff. That's why I don't think that people are supposed to eat meat and dairy.

I also get the following questions:

~Cows that are milked are not harmed. Why don't you eat dairy?

~Animals eat other animals. Why don't you have a problem with that?

~Humans are at the top of the food chain. What's wrong with us being smart enough to kill and process our food?

~Vegetables are alive. Why do you eat those and not animals?

I always seem to get a lot of ethics-type questions. I want to laugh at a lot of the questions, but I refrain. I recognize that I might be the only vegan they have interacted with and I try to give them good information without being annyoed or especially cruel - even if that's the way they act towards me.

Good luck to you and don't let others get you down!

  13. Give up..... God created animals for people to eat them. Small animals for big animals, every animal was created with its unique way of killing smaller insects or animals to survive. Don't have pity on an insect or animal that eats other living objects

  14. Meat and dairy have hormones and pesticides in them. Milk contains pus. Milk is great for baby cows--it bulks them up nicely. Most of us humans don't need to get fatter, though.

It isn't natural to drink milk as adults or as kids.

Tell them that people living in Asia (where they consume almost no dairy) have fewer instances of osteoporosis than Westerners do.

The best sources of protein are from nuts, seeds, and legumes. They're also higher in fiber which is better for you.

Most Americans consume twice as much protein as they should--very bad on the kidneys!!! Seeds, nuts, and legumes can give you a sufficient amount of protein!

We're designed to be herbivores, not omnivores--we don't have claws; no sharp front  teeth; saliva built to pre-digest grains (not meat).

Tell them they are ignorant. Tell them they are eating pus, pesticides, a harmful amount of protein, and way too much cholesterol!

  15. it is simply your choice what you put into your mouth. Protein can be gotten from so many things. Beans, grains, nuts, seeds and the value added products like tofu, tempeh.Tofutti has a great line of ice cream, sour cream,  cream cheeses that are all vegan and soy based.  Fruit calcium is a lot more easily absorbed than dairy related calcium or bonemeal. Just quietly do your thing and if people ask you can explain why you make the choices that you do. Caring about the enviornment, having compassion for animals and being healthier are all reasons people choose to be become vegan. Those are all admirable qualities and please try to remember that the next time some yo-yo annoys you.

  16. personally I love meat but at the same time I respect others decisions on how they want to live just tell them you don't need to justify your life decisions

  17. I don't understand why you have to reply back or even bother being hurt by close-minded people.....you don't owe them any d**n explanation........

but yeah, its perfectly alright and necessary to know where you're food comes from...so read up on vegan diets, sources of protein and calcium...some of the answers above are good too.....

but again....don't waste your precious time and energy arguing with stupid people.....
