  1. CHIPOTLE!

I used to work there so I've already checked all the labels. :)

The tortillas (the large burrito tortillas... I never checked the ingredients on the small taco ones), rice, black beans, salsas, and guacamole are all vegan. You can have just about anything there except for the pinto beans (they have pork in them), the meat (duh), and the dairy (duh). Also, the salad dressing isn't vegan. It has honey in it.

  2. order salads and remove stuff or add stuff

if you go to a place with no salads

tell them to grab lettuce, tomatoes, etc and make you a salad

if it's not on the menu they might still have it

    don't be afraid to ask

  3. It really depends on the type of restaurant.  Ethnic restaurants are usually a good bet for vegans.  Indian food includes lots of vegetarian dishes; you just have to avoid paneer and yogurt and ask if they cook with ghee (clarified butter) or oil.   get veggie fajitas a lot when I go to Mexican restaurants; I just ask for extra guacamole and pico de gallo in place of the cheese and sour cream.  You'll also want to check if their beans are made with lard or if the rice is made with chicken broth.  Chinese, Japanese and Thai restaurants are usually good for veggie dishes with rice or noodles.  And you can usually get pasta with marinara sauce at an Italian restaurant; you'll want to ask if the pasta has eggs, though.  If you're at a more generic America-style restaurant, the choices or lack of choices will vary widely.  Most will have something you can eat, even if you have to modify something on the menu.  The worst case scenario is a plain baked potato with plain steamed veggies - not exciting, but food nonetheless.

Your biggest ally is your waitperson.  Ask polite questions and you'll usually get something decent.

  4. If a restaurant has any pasta dishes on the menu, you can probably ask them to prepare you a vegan pasta dish, even if it isn't on the menu.  It will probably have some olive oil, garlic and veggies.  Be sure to request that it is vegan because many pasta dishes will otherwise contain cheese (even if it's just a little parmesan)

  5. - Many tomato or oil based pasta dishes

    - Most places have veggie burgers

    - Meat-free pizzas (w/o cheese, of course)

    - Asian salads are nice as long as the dressing doesn't have chicken broth or fat in it (many do)

    - Good luck!

  6. It's really hard when you're on vacation to eat vegan 100% and going to a regular restaurant can make it kind of miserable.  I always pack a cooler of food that I buy at a grocery store before going on a longer trip and make my own sandwiches, snacks, etc.  I always take lots of fruit because it stays well without being refrigerated.

As far as going to restaurants go, check out happycow.net.  Put in a city and it will give you a list, it's fantastic.  If you have to go to a regular restaurant, always create your own meal, you would be surprised at how ill-informed restaurant staff can be when it comes to being Vegan.  I've found that ordering simple things is always the best bet.  Salad, dry, no cheese with balsamic, spaghetti with marinara, or with grilled vegetables.  If you see something on the menu that you think you can throw together, then they can do it for you.

Good luck and have a great vacation!

  7. drink water and chew on icecubes.

  8. I'm vegan and I never have problems finding anything to order at restaurants. Ethnic is a good choice: Chinese, Indian, Thai and Mexican (check beans and rice though). If you can't find anything on main menu, look for apps like hummus or bruschetta.

  9. since we dont know what places youa re going to eat your best bet is to ask the waiter what is available for you, if nothing they may create a dish for you

  10. Vegetables have feelings to! Why are you eating innocent live plants?
