  1. I'm not 100% sure but, I have seen shirts that say vegetarian-cut the c**p and 'etari' are dashed so they look like you should cut them out so it says 'vegan'.

  2. Pronunciation:

        \ˈvē-gən also ˈvā- also ˈve-jən or -ˌjan\

    Function:

        noun

    Etymology:

        by contraction from vegetarian

    Date:

        1944

  3. It was started being used back in the 1940's.

Will have to do some research on who possibly started it... will get back with you.

    Edit:

Back - just did a quick search on Google and found this information:

The word "vegan" was first used by Donald Watson in 1944.  It came from the word "vegetarian" by using the last two letters (an) and the first three letters (veg).  Watson's reasoning behind this was that veganism starts with vegeterianism and carries it through to its logical ending. Watson, among other members of the Vegetarian Society, wanted to start a group of non-dairy vegetarians.  When their proposal was turned down by the society, Watson and his followers decided to start their own organization.

  4. From the planet Vega!

  5. The term was created by the founder of the Vegan Society, who didn't like that vegetarianism had evolved to include those who eat dairy products and other animal derivatives. Obviously, it comes from the word "vegetarian".
