Vegan "chocolate chip" cookies?? Wild Oats used to make them =(?

There used to be a store called Wild Oats in my town (not sure if they had them everywhere) that made the most amazingly amazing vegan chocolate chip cookies (I think they may have actually been carob) and then some big stupid corporation bought them out and opened a new health food store that no longer makes vegan chocolate chip cookies.

Does anyone know how to make vegan chocolate chip cookies?

  1. Did Whole Foods buy out Wild Oats? Here is a recipe for vegan cookies:

    Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies

    Makes 25 to 30 cookies

1 cup of softened soy margarine

    1/2 cup brown sugar

    1/2 cup sugar

    1/4 cup soy milk

    1 teaspoon vanilla

    2 1/4 cups flour

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    1 teaspoon baking soda

    12 ounces dairy-free chocolate chips

    Preheat the oven to 350oF.

In a large bowl, mix the margarine, sugar, and brown sugar until it's light and fluffy. Slowly stir in the soy milk then add the vanilla to make a creamy mixture.

In a separate bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking soda. Add this dry mixture to the creamy mixture and stir well. Then fold in the chocolate chips.

Drop small spoonfuls onto non-stick cookie sheets and bake for 8 to 10 minutes.

  2. in my Bible, "Skinny B*tch in the Kitch", there is a kickassss recipe for chocolate chip cookies:

    Makes about 48

2.5 cups whole wheat pastry flour

    .5 tbsp baking soda

    1 tsp fine sea salt

    1.5 evaporated cane sugar

    1.25 refined coconut oil

    .25 cup ice water

    1 tbsp molasses

    .5 tbsp pure vanilla extract

1 (10-12oz) package vegan chocolate chips

    1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

preheat oven to 375, line baking sheet w/ parchment paper

in med bowl, sift together flour, baking soda & salt; set aside

in a stand mixer, or large bowl w/ hand mixer, combine sugar & coconut oil, mixing on med speed until creamy, about 3 minutes.

Add water, molasses & vanilla and mix until well combined.

With the mixer on low speed, slowly add the flour mixture, 3 or 4 additions total.

Add chocolate chips and, if using, walnuts.

Arrange 2-tbsp balls 2 inches apart on sheet.

    Bake for 13-15 minutes.

    Enjoy!

BUTTTTTTTT if you're reaaaally not into baking cookies from scratch, the brand Enjoy Life (something like that) makes virtually every type of cookie ever made. And they're vegan!

    Good luck!

  3. There are vegan chocolate chips available, you just have to look a little harder for them.  I have heard that people have had good luck veganizing the Toll House recipe (Earth Balance for the butter, Ener-G for the eggs,) which you could do with any recipe.  I have yet to find the perfect vegan-from-the-ground-up chocolate chip cookie recipe; the one in Vegan With a Vengeance came out kind of dry and crumbly when I tried them (but I've since been told that the Earth Balance has to be really soft and melt-y first, so they might be worth trying.)
