i was a vegan for a few months and people acted like it was so weird. as if i was from another planet. when i brought my friends vegan cookies they looked at them like they were so strange even though they tasted delicious. my food that i brought from home for lunches, even if it was a vegetable soup or something normal than any non-vegan might eat too, they would question if it was good and again give it that weird look. has anyone else had these experiences from being vegan? please share. and if you are not vegan please share why vegans are so freakish to you... or if they are not.. thanks

  1. They're not. They're not to anyone else, either.

Vegans like to think people think theyre freakish so they feel 'rad' and 'different' - truth is, sweetie, no one cares.

  2. Hey, I'm living in the S.E.Asia and not many of them know vegetarianism (obviously the word VEGANISM). When I begun my vegetarianism, I walked around in the regular foodstalls requesting them to prepare "vegetarian-like" cuisine. (hey!weird to them, but I explained how/what to "exclude" from the food. There were no vegetarian food served those days). It have been 7 years already past now. Today i could see many vegetarian restaurant, hawkers and consumers knew the word VEGANISM. I start to realize that "I'm not alone" in the making. Many vegetarians/vegans are contributing more than what I do/did to the society.

We act for the purpose of educating and appreciating, not detecting, neither investigating. To be more practical, if we need to influence them, we must mingle among them, guide them passionately.

  3. I'm not a vegan but I'm trying to be :)

I also got weird looks from friends and family members when I made vegan cookies (yummm) They're probably not used to cookies without dairy products in it , so they think it will taste disgusting. Let them give weird looks, you are a wonderful vegan who saves animals and is 50 times healthier than those omnivores.

I even brought over vegetarian hot dogs for my friends BBQ and she threw them out behind my back because no one wanted to taste fake meat.

Theres nothing wrong with vegetarian/vegan foods, its just a new thing to people

  4. well my 'vegan' thoughts are thought vitamins and minerals are the most important part in your body, so i eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. i try not to eat anything processed too. I'm not a vegetarian but people might think i am because i eat real food (fruits + veggies). i am starting to take better attention and help to my defective vision by not eating a lot of meat. i like meat, because God says we can eat them, but there is way to much 'stress' meat out there or just bad meat by tortured animals. (i love animals, but i only eat a few things meat, which, that i learned are the most tortured animals to give bad meat, are chicken, pig, and cow, so after learning that lots of meat had a stressed and horrible life, as in the animal, i have to be more careful with my meat)

i must say, to conclude, is my body is healthy with real food, and healthy meat (after i care for my eyes, and if you want you can look up the site were i got info for that)

i also want to put in I DON'T DRINK ANYTHING MILK, its a horrible thing to have in your body, just read MILK THE DEADLY POISON. (when somebody sees the word poison they think right off, your gonna die by drinking it, but its more complicated to say to that) i try awful hard not to have lots of dairy products because it also derives from lots of stressed animals. i try not to have any chesse (as from on pizza, i really like it and want to make my own, healthy, natural way in making pizza), i dont evan like eating it by hand.

alot of people also dont know that we dont really need protien also, its amino-acids, things in fruit and vegies, and i put that in my brain when i eat.

to answer your question (its gonna be long)-- people question that people who are vegans as hard to underdtand because they've been sort of brain washed into eating things with chemicals, or as we call processed, they also dont have a care or they dont know, that lots of meat have been from stresses and sick animals. its very good and healthy to be vegan but lots of vegans are (i dont want to hurt anyone by saying this) a little to obnocious when they talk about animals and pain, and things like that. first of all, yes lots of animals are tortured before becoming our food, but that doesnt mean all of them. second, in the holy bible, God says after the flood, you could eat the beasts of the world, so that ment, we could eat all the herbs (fruits, veggies, seeds) of the fields, and animals, but lots of vegans are very disturbed in to thinking animals having spirits. they have a soul because they have a  mind to think, a heart to feel emotions, and a will to decide. but lots of people over the years thought they would have spirits, which lots (not saying YOU or everybody) of vegans think.

personally, i had one 'vegan related' expierence (no saying i am) when someone once asked at school, "what did you bring for lunch?", and i said something like "spinach, tomatoes, a plum, and apple" or something on the lines of that, i forgot, and he said "are you a vegieterrian?" which i replied "no, i like meat, but i eat the food that God has given me", and then like usual he cut me offf like lots of people, maybe he was embarresed in making an error on a opinion on my life that he didnt know.

since i do eat meat, but not alot since lots of them are not that healthy today as back in the day, im no vegan, but stress in my life to eat real food - and i already told you why non-vegans or what i like to call unhealthy brothers and sisters are so strange tords vegans. not saying that ALL non-vegans are like that, like me.

im sorry for having this comment so long, but i want to say i always loved animals, i want to stay healthy by eating what God has given us from the fields, not machine made p**p.

thank you for reading my opinion-comment!

  5. Last school year I was vegetarian but became veg@n and only like 3 people knew about it. One of my friends told me most veg@ns were really unhealthy but I didn't listen to her. My other friend didn't care to much. She was still cool to me and my other friend called the veggie man LoL! (Not being mean to me or anything)! But this year i'm sure people are going to think i'm weird but I don't care what people think about me and neither should you! And plus if they don't want any delicious veg@n cookies more for us veg@ns right! (I luv veg@n cookies!!)

  6. Oh I know! Isn't it annoying!? I don't go to school atm. (Homeschooling for a year) But yeah. At first I enjoy the questions, but some people either accept it or just carry on questioning and it does get on my nerves.

  7. Well, the fact is that a lot of the vegan and vegetarian versions of foods are different from the traditional versions. While I'm perfectly happy eating fake meat and think it's yummy, other people think it's bland. (Which is weird, because to me it tastes fine, especially with the sauces I make.)

Remember also that there is no accounting for taste. Think of how delicious meat is to some people. My friend begged me to try some sausage, so I did. Guess what? I thought it was gross. It wasn't just that it was meat, but as food it just didn't do it for me. The texture and the flavor both were less than pleasant.

That's all. I haven't had anyone think I was weird or different for not eating meat. Like, maybe for awhile in high school. But overall it's been no big deal. I think people who do think it's strange just don't understand why someone wouldn't indulge in something that they enjoy so much. People look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them I don't like chocolate.

  8. My stupid step-mother-in-law does that all the time and so does one of her sons but nowhere near as bad. No one else is like that but I already know that she's an evil witch from what my wife has told me.

That is just one indication of a person's stupidity. There are stupid people all around us. Most of them just seem to blend in well most of the time.

  9. I am a vegan no one thinks I am weird and I think every one should go vegan P.S where did you get vegan cookies I would love to know I want cookies so bad =^..^=

  10. coz being vegitariun is discustin!

  11. I actually haven't had many situations like that. People I am around seem to live and let live, and I do as well. Maybe that is the difference. I don't talk about food specifics unless someone asks. I particularly think mealtimes are not a good time to talk about value-laden issues, especially if I am at work, so it rarely comes up. It's strange, but the only person that does take issue with it is my mom, but is trying to adjust. It helps that my husband is vegan too. She likes him so doesn't want to put up a fuss with him around.

Otherwise all our friends are supportive (and they all eat meat). We just make accomodations for each other out of respect. And we haven't had any problems with strangers either. Most just have a few questions out of curiousity and leave it at that.
