What are vegans opinions on keeping dogs??

Do you see it as they're carnivores and there's evidence for this by the shaping of their teeth, so should be allowed and fed a meat based diet by there vegan owners??

Or

Would you feed them a vegan diet... How would this work??

I'm just curious as to other peoples views on it. I love dogs and would like to get one, but I'm not sure about dog food.. Also the cost of vegan dog food may be difficult. May it be the case that I just can't get myself a dog??

  1. Making your dog be vegan is unfair to them I believe.

They are omnivores and are designed to eat bones, well they'll eat just about anything however foul and revolting it may be.

Vegan dog food , well it just isn't right, the dogs' teeth will probably fall out too, with the lack of chewing.

I don't think it right to impose ones own beliefs on those who have no choice of their own.

EDIT::Dogs ARE OMNIVORES watch them and see what they select to eat, it's not just meat, they even graze.

  2. Dogs are carnivore by NATURE.  People are VEGAN due to defective brain cells. (Think evolution gone amock)

DON'T put your addled brain power up against a poor defenseless dogs need for meat in his diet.

If yo love dogs and think being a vegan is cool, get a d**n rabbit.

  3. I wish people would stop to question their 'common sense' once in a while. Dog's aren't carnivores... they're omnivores just like us. My dog loved munching on carrots, apples, just about anything actually! Sure in the wild dog's wouldn't have been vegan but they also wouldn't have eaten processed dog food, kibble, dog treats and all the other things people feed them. A healthy well thought out vegan diet is fine for a dog and probably better than the inferior quality meat dog food on the market.

There are loads of dogs out there living healthily and in fact thriving on a vegan diet. The oldest dog in the UK who's 27(!!) is vegan for god's sake so just because something as seen as out of the ordinary or going against the status quo, doesn't mean that it's wrong. People say the same thing about vegans in general... our bodies were designed to eat meat etc etc. If they actually did some research and were a bit more open minded they would see just how beneficial a vegan diet can be to both humans and dogs.

  4. Dogs are omnivores by nature and can thrive on a feel vegan diet. Vegans do not *keep dogs* but maybe adopt them into their family. I know a lot of vegan dogs out there and even vegan cats (though vegan cats are more controversial since they are carnivores, they get supplements). You can be perfectly healthy as a vegan dog, actually more healthy.

  5. Anyone who makes a carnivore eat a vegan diet should be prosecuted for animal cruelty!

  6. I don't eat meat, but I wouldn't think it's a good idea for a dog to be vegan. They are mainly carnivores.

You'll get get a flatulent pet if you feed it nut cutlets.

  7. DO NOT FEED YOUR DOG A VEGAN DIET!!!!

    what a hypocrite!

dont get a dog if you are going to do that to the poor animal!

  8. dogs are actually omnivores, in the wild dogs regularly eat grasses. and unlike cats that go blind on a vegan diet dogs can live on a vegan diet and will generally be healthy. i do however think that dogs should be fed a food that contains meat, just because they can live without it does not mean they should.

having a dog is not an unvegan thing to do, as long as the dog is adopted from a shelter and tot purchased from a pet store or breeder.
