  1. Female

    1 year

Spiritual/faith, animal rights, health, and peace/love.

    Yep.

    Okay.

    Same.

    Sometimes.

I use to be one, wish they would be vegan though, but I did not know what happened in the dairy industry till later.

    Cool.

    The common ones.

If I did I would not be vegan...so no.

I do not like the smell or surroundings of non-vegan things so it is very unpleasant.

    Vegan for life baby!

    Peace

  2. Your Gender **Female**

    You age **31**

Where do you live **Middle of nowhere in Midwest USA

How long have you been Vegan **almost a year now

Why did you decide to be Vegan **was vegetarian - just a natural change for health reasons

Does your religious beliefs tie into being Vegan **nope

What did your family think about you becoming Vegan **they're all vegan too!

What about your friends  **they think I'm nuts, but they are supportive in their own way.

Does it effect your relationship with people **not really

What do you think about Vegetarians **I think they're great!  Just need to drop the dairy and minor animal products!

Whats it like to date and explain your Vegan  **I'm married and he's also a vegan now too

What were some of the rudest/weirdest questions/comments you have gotten about being Vegan  **I'm breastfeeding my daughter and someone told me that it's hypocritical to be a vegan but give my daughter food from an animal....me being the animal.  Whatever.  Also someone told my husband that they feel sorry for my daughter since we're never going to let her drink milk.....um, okay, to each their own.  I would never tell that person I feel sorry for their kids because they eat dairy.....even though deep down I do feel sad for them, it's just none of my business.

Do you wear any animal products (fur, wool, leather products tested on animals)  **I do still wear my old leather products.  I will slowly go that route, but for now, I'm just basically doing this for my own personal health reasons.

What's it like to eat out for you at non-Vegan restaurants **It's really not that hard. Most places are happy to accomodate - a baked potato and side salad is available virtually anywhere.  I don't really like eating out anyway - I love to cook and I love the food I make better anyway.

Do you plan on being Vegan the rest of your life **DEFINITELY

    Yes

    They are fine with it.

    They are fine with it.

It made me see some people's true colors.

I think they could admit that eggs and milk still cause cruelty.

I wouldn't know.  I am married to another vegan.

The protein thing...The defensive meat eater...

    Never

I eat at Bob Evans for breakfast.  I take my own soy milk.

    Absolutely.

  4. Female

    54

    Detroit, MI USA

    15 years

    factory farming

    yes, I'm a Buddhist

    they think I'm a nut

most of my friends are vegan

I don't think it affects my relationships

Vegetarians are participating in the cruelest aspect of all

Either blank stares or "what do you possibly EAT?"

"So, you eat chicken, right? It's not meat."

    No wear/use/consume any animal products

I pick and choose my restaurants- usually, they have a salad

    I am a life-long vegan

The Lankavatrara Sutra says Buddhists refrain from meat because:

-present-day animals may have been ones kin

-ones own parents and relatives in a future life may be born as an animal.

-there is no logic in exempting some kinds of meat

-meat is impure and contaminated by body wastes

-the prospect of being killed spreads terror amongst animals

-meat is really nothing but carrion

-meat eating makes the consumer cruel and sensual

-man is not a carnivore by nature

Right action of the Eightfold Middle Path refers to "no killing or causing to kill."

  8. Female

    22

    New York

2 years vegetarian, 1 year vegan

Why did you decide to be Vegan

To minimize my contribution to animal suffering

Does your religious beliefs tie into being Vegan

    I don't have religious beliefs.

What did your family think about you becoming Vegan

They were concerned for my health at first, but have come to accept my choice. However, they still don't like to hear about issues of animal welfare.

    What about your friends

Closer friends were more accepting, but many still found veganism strange and off-putting (for reasons they could not articulately explain).

Does it effect your relationship with people

As hurtful as some people may be, I find that coming out as a vegan helps to weed out those I'd rather not have as friends.

What do you think about Vegetarians

Vegetarians are on the right track. With greater attention and care, they can cut out most, if not all, animal products from their lifestyles.

Whats it like to date and explain your Vegan

Luckily, I've been in a supportive relationship for six years with someone who understands my motives for being vegan.

What were some of the rudest/weirdest questions/comments you have gotten about being Vegan

Narrow-mindedness in the form of blank stares, snickers, confused looks, and asking questions without bothering to hear the answers.

Do you wear any animal products (fur, wool, leather products tested on animals)

I have leather and wool products from my non-vegan past and intend to use them so as not to be wasteful. However, since becoming vegan, I have not and will not buy any more animal products.

What's it like to eat out for you at non-Vegan restaurants

Some restaurants are more accommodating than others and will prepare a vegan entree upon request, if one isn't available on the menu. I avoid eating at non-vegan-friendly restaurants whenever possible.

Do you plan on being Vegan the rest of your life

I plan on being vegan as long as I have a heart.
