Im Buddhist (see myself as a enviornmentalist and animal activist 18 and just moved to miami) and have been reading alot of scriptures about how animals are to be respected and treated as we as human beings would wish to be treated and how even the dairy industries and egg industries and still cruel.I have even not too long ago made the decision to be vegetarian and thats going pretty well for me already .I try to buy as "ethically" responsible dairy and egg products as possible but I know its still wrong and humans dont need eggs or dairy products at all.I already have done research and have learned about good vegan books and some sites but was wanting soem more advice.I already try to incoporate vegan foods into my vegetarian diet slowly but I want to see if I could go all the way.I dont want to just go about this and backslide to being a Vegetarian if I do this I want to know how I can STAY commited all advice is welcomed.

  1. Don't be so hard on yourself. It takes time to "reporgram" our eating habits - especially if you were reared to eat meat and dairy. One or two times is not going to ruin you forever.

But for actual advice, when you have a craving for ice cream or eggs or cheese, just try to picture a poor baby bull chained in a super-small cage to be "made" into veal. Or try and picture a crippled dairy cow laying in her own waste with swollen udders who cannot stand up because she is diseased and exhausted.

I know it's drastic, but that's how I broke my love of cheese. I won't go near the stuff now.

    Good luck!

  2. As hellinor pointed out, you may have a few stumbles.

If you crave ice cream, why, there's soy ice cream available.  There are also soy cheeses (watch for the casein!), but none of the vegan cheeses are all that good.  I was never a cheese freak, so giving it up wasn't a problem, except for pizza.

You do the best you can.  Even if you try and fail at being vegan, it's better than not trying at all.

  3. If your doing research and trying vegan foods thats great! Maybe look for vegan furniture, shoes(converse =]) and more. Try to find some non-animal tested products and just focus on your will power. Your doing great so far =]
