  1. This is one of the most confused and misinformed articles I've read in a long time.

    (a) All vegans, not "some" refuse to eat eggs.

    (b) "Not eating baby chicks is moot" - tell that to the hen who is forced to produce eggs at an unnatural rate. Hens originally produced eggs to produce offspring, not to feed humans.

    (c) "More animals suffer in the growing and production of soy" - animals in this case on soy land have the choice to flee or to move from the place of farming. They also do not have to endure suffering constantly or frequently. Neither is the case for farmed hens, especially battery hens.

    (d) "Save a hen, eat an egg" - I don't know what this author thinks he means by free range, but free range basically often only means uncaged. Farmers still have provision to cram as many hens as they wish together in a tiny space, as long as this is profitable.

    (e) "Pens are necessary, or the hens would be easy prey for foxes"

Logic dictates that if hens weren't being bred for meat and egg production, the pens wouldn't be needed either.

    f) "If you keep your own hens, you are saving other hens from battery situations"

If you eat no eggs period, then you doing the same.

    (g) Battery situations? - at least the author gets something right here.

    (f) Do the Math - the author's conclusions, I believe, are based on his own self interest in continuing to eat eggs, and his point of view biased in favour of continuing this, including discounting infomation. Not very scientific, or mathematical, I think.

Good try, but no cigar :)

  2. In regards to that misinformed and poorly written article, I do not eat eggs, I haven't for about 7 years.

The truth of "free range" eggs is that there is no freedom and much cruelty inherent to the "production" of them. I realize this tag line is enough to assuage  the guilt of some, but it is just that, a tag line. There are no standards put in place to ensure any kind of humane treatment of the hens.

And the notion of EATING eggs to end cruelty to hens would be laughable if it weren't so mystifying.

Finally, the vast majority of soy being produced in the world is used for animal feed. And to confuse intentional exploitation and cruelty (eating animal products) with incidental pain and death (with large-scale agriculture) is missing the point and a pathetic, common device of the type of person wanting to eat _____ but knowing that they (ethically) shouldn't.

  3. well it's not the chick vegans are worried about it's the way they treat the hens.

  4. well I am a vegetarian but not yet a vegan I don't think I will become a vegan. Oh and thankyou for your answer and my guinea pig question. =)

  5. Acutally, the facts are out...humans can not survive in Good Health with out meat products or certain proteins. They are just not availible in Veggies and substitutes.  More power to them for doing what they beleive in...but...

  6. I am neither but that site like 99% of the others is just someones biased opinion.

  7. The logic of this is lost on me. I don't eat eggs at all and I don't see how it's going to reduce suffering if I started eating free range eggs.

I don't even like the taste or smell of eggs.

It might make some difference if you eat eggs anyway, though.
