Question:

Vegans don't drink milk...why?

Ok I can understand vegans being against cheese (rennet), but why milk? The arguments I have heard are: no species naturally drinks the milk of another species (which is SO true and I completely agree that drinking milk is unnatural), and that dairy cows are kept in a perpetual state of pregnancy and are treated inhumanely. I live next to a dairy farm and their dairy cows graze outside my window. They are the happiest cows ever. They get to eat and relax all day and the neighborhood kids go over and pet them and feed them. These cows love being around people and they will run over to the fence and rub up against you when you come over. I have never seen any sort of misconduct against these cows, and they nurture and care for their babies on their own. The people who own them are also sure to not over-milk them so they can still feed the baby cows. My vegan neighbor one day said that those people are sick for keeping cows like that. How is any of that animal cruelty?

  1. Its just because it comes from an animal.

  2. They come from an animal and vegans eat/drink nothing from animals. I know you could argue that everything kind of comes from animals but that is what they chose to believe! I personally don't believe that. I like milk! lol. But people have their own perspective and therefore we all must respect it and move on.

  3. Vegans don't eat any animal products.  Period.  That's why.

  4. no animal products.

  5. cows are hooked to machines that squeeze their utters making them bleed the wounds become puss filled and leek in to the milk u.s milk is almost illegal it's got so much puss in it and the animals are forced to reproduce every 10month so they'll lactate

  6. Vegans don't eat anything that comes from an animal, no matter if it is good for the animal or what. It could be for their beliefs or just their health, milk also contains a lot of fat (why humans and other mammals can survive on it as babies).

p.s: As long as you keep milking any animal they will have milk, and not "dry up", but they don't have to keep them in a having babies state.

  7. Such a logical & emotional reason. No mums will let their milk stolen, by force. If milk loving adults go for milk from any animals (for instance dog, giraff, etc) i've nothing to surprise. Illogical world deluded by societal norm.

  8. Strict vegans do not consume or use anything derived from animals.  This includes meat, dairy, honey, and leather products.  Vegetarians and Vegans have different reasons for choosing their diets.  Some do it for personal health purposes, some for environmental health purposes (pollution caused from raising livestock), some because they were raised that way and have no desire to change, some because they believe it is morally wrong to consume animals, and others because they disagree with the way animals are treated.  Not all animals raised for consumption are abused, but most major companies that produce meat and other animal products find it to be 'financially necessary' to hold each animal in extremely small quarters without access to outside for their entire lives, separating newborn animals from mothers, injecting hormones that encourage growth in certain body parts beyond that which the animal is capable of supporting.  Animals are often physically abused and neglected (chickens are thrown into holding areas when moved), and the list really goes on and on.  It would be nice if all the cows were 'happy cows' and that consumers could easily tell where their meat was coming from.  When you go to a grocery store, you have no idea if that meat has come from a small family farm (where the animals may be free-range and well cared for), or a large complex where they have lived regarded only as an product assigned a value, never experiencing anything such as grass or sunlight.

Also, if someone not used to eating meat because of a animal abuse issues found a free-range source, they can't just eat it, as their body cannot digest it well, and they will become ill.

So the main issue with these kind of people is that they can't tell where their meat comes from 100%, and it's really an all or nothing diet...

Health food stores do offer some meat, some of which is labeled as organic, others as free-range.  Just because it is organic, doesn't mean the animal wasn't locked up its entire life, or that other abuses did not occur. Major farm industries are such that money and efficiency are prioritized over other things.  These choices are usually expensive, so not everyone can afford to eat free-range meat.  This is because the cost of raising an animal free-range is more expensive, and trust most companies to choose the cheaper route, as any good businessman would....except those whose morals outweigh greed...and those are few and far between

  9. that's probably a nice dairy farm. not all of them are so nice. vegans don't consume any animal byproducts, anyway. and also, a lot of vegans do it for health reasons.

  10. They don't like to eat anything or from anything that has a face on it.No meat and no dairy of any kind.

  11. I don't think it's for animal cruelty...it's just that vegans don't eat ANY animal products, and milk comes from animals. Maybe it has to do with like, taking the milk from cows is like using them, like an object.

  12. Vegans don't use ANY animal products, even if they weren't produced under cruel circumstances.

  13. cos it comes from animals

  14. Most cows don't get to graze all day long, it's easier to feed them grain instead of grass and keep them confined to lots full of urine and f***s.

Most of the dairy industry is dominated by dairies under corporate ownership and corporations will do anything to reduce costs and maximize profits.

  15. As a general rule, vegens don't eat or drink anything made from or produced by animals, but their most common argument is that humans are the only animals that drink other animals' milk. Also, they say that milk uses up more calcium from your body than it gives.

  16. i think they don't drink it because it is coming from cows and they think it hurts them

  17. Exactly my argument: a cow HAS TO BE MILKED or else it will die (unless it has babies), so why do vegans not drink it?

  18. vegans dont drink milk because it comes from an animal and vegans dont eat or drink animal by products or anything tht comes from an animal.

  19. First of all, cheese is made of milk, which is why vegans are against it, so you really don't understand why they're against cheese if you don't understand why they're against milk.

Second, it's true no other species naturall drinks the milk of another species. It's not meant for humans, or adults. The milk is meant for babies. I mean, you don't see women taking their breast milk and feeding it to cats, do you? h**l no, that would be disgusting.

Third, you seem like you have nice neighboors who love their animals. It may be weird to imagine a dairy farm being a different way because you've seen that all your life, but like 99% of all dairy farms are extremely, extremely cruel to cows and any livestock they have. It doesn't matter how nice those people are, because they're one in a million.

And fourth, I don't think your vegan friend really knows what she's complaining about.

Sorry if I sounded really bitter, but it just sickens me that some people don't know the truth behind it all...

  20. Vegans are people who consume no amimal products.  Some may have alergies.  Personally I don't like milk, I drink soymilk.  I am not vegan, I eat cheese and eggs(cage free.  The kind you can trust not to have nasty little secrets).

  21. Humans are the only beings that consume milk from another animal...not to mention after their growing years.

I really don't think it's right to take something that isn't ours, and especially if so many other animals can live well without milk after a certain amount of time of having their mother's breastmilk.

  22. The whole Vegan mindset revolves around being completely self-dependent for food and not taking anything from animals or animal byproducts.

The reasoning is that, as intelligent beings, we have the capacity to survive without hurting, or even using other living creatures. My Father's (Vegan) ex-girlfriend's acquaintance is adamant that even milking a cow is unnatural, and that we don't need to take advantage of them like that.

The levels of extremity in Veganism vary pretty widely, so while some are quite happy to see animals on a humane farm (such as yours), others are repulsed by it and would rather see them all wild (what would happen to all those poor chickens?!). The issue becomes less about misconduct towards animals, and more about the animals themselves.

I personally think that your cows are very well off, considering the larger scope of things. I've seen cows like that myself, and it would be difficult to convince one, if it were intelligent enough choose itself, that it was an unhappy cow.

As for milk... I must politely disagree. I would feel a heck of a lot more awkward drinking human milk than cow, goat, or rice milk, and apparently, several thousand years of civilization seem to agree. It isn't a necessity now, but it is still a fantastic source of nutrients.

Also, you could just ask your neighbor directly... I only know about this second hand, and you have the opportunity to hear it right from the mouth of the horse (pun intended).

Obviously, I am not Vegan myself (nor Vegetarian, for that matter), but I'm confident in all the points I've made. I hope this helps a little!

♪ Good milk comes from happy cows!♪

  23. Usually it is allergies, health concerns, and worries about the chemicals involved in pasteurization that draw them away from milk, not moral concerns.

It sounds like you have a free range, organic farm next to you. They raise no moral concerns, except their high price tag, and your vegan friend is a prat for not looking at the full picture before passing judgments like that.

  24. Like any argument, even vegans show the one extreme instance of animal brutality and say that everyone that raises cows is the same.

  25. vegans are so stupid to be.... just like being a vegiterian ... god put animals on the earth for some reason other than being our slaves or a fluffy cuddle toy.

  26. well vegans dont eat meat, nor any source that comes from the meat.

milk, for example, comes from the cow so I agree. it's weird for being in some eyes- animal cruelty, but it still does come from the animal so its justified.

  27. i don't know how its animal cruelty, but they feel like they shouldn't take something that comes from an animal... personally i think its sort of silly but thats just my view., to each their own

  28. cause mlilk comes frm cows n vegans against eating or drinking anything tht comes frm animals

  29. Vegans don't consume any animal products at all.

  30. not all farms are the same .some the cows dont even get to walk around they are stuck in a small space all their life's

  31. humans are animals too so they can stop eating candy.

and buying things made from humans.
