I have a vegan friend coming to stay for a week in our omnivorous home. Apart from beans on toast and shop bought (Cauldron) soya products what on earth can I feed him. Sorry to sound so rubbish but can someone please give me a couple of meal ideas so that I make him feel that we made an effort.

  5. I'm not a vegan, but the first thing that came to my mind is that you could make a simple spaghetti bolognese but without meat or cheese. That way, you could all eat the same dish together.

Check this website: http://www.veganvillage.co.uk/recipes.ht... - It looks really simple to work through, and has some lovely recipes that I might try myself.

This website's got a lovely vegetable curry that's unbelievably simple: http://www.simpleveganrecipes.co.uk/

  6. There are so many vegetarian recipes available.

Indian vegetarian recipes are good in taste as well as health.

  7. Dhal

    Veggie curry

    Veggie chilli

    Seasonal soups

    Super fresh delicious salads

    Hummus and pitta

Lots n lots of lovely stuff

Why not try only cooking vegan for the duration of your friends' stay..then your whole family might get to try foods they may never have encountered without your vegan visitors visit :-))

So, for example, you might be cooking a roast dinner, well try it vegan style, roasted veggies and baked tofu, or veggie burger mix, or make your own creation out of chick peas..

Anyway, if you like food and like cooking, you should enjoy the challenge, even though, it isn't really a challenge, just sounds a bit daunting until you start.

    Have fun :-))

  8. tell your friend to wise up

  9. You should find something on these websites.......

Salads and fruit are always good, as are veggie sandwiches, pasta with olive oil and salt, I mean, well there are endless amounts of choices.

There are tons of faux meat and cheese products in the stores, too, if he like those things.

  10. My favourite vegan dishes are pata provencail{pasta with mixed vegetables and tomatoe sauce}and vegan spagetthi bolegnase{use TVP which you can buy in the vegetarian frozen section in sainsburys for the 'meat'

Also you can try vegan bean burgers and you can get linda mcartney 'meat pies and 'sausages' which are all vegan. And for dessert you can get vegan 'swedish glace' icecream, which id delicious!

  11. dinners that you and the vegan might like......

spaghetti squash w/ red sauce, served w/ dinner salad and bread.  you can make one large batch of sauce, separate it - and put meat into the portion your family will be enjoying.

pot of beans, salad, sliced melon (such as canteloupe) and bread.

stir fry veggies, baked potato, salad, bread.....and grilled meat on the side for rest of family

crockpot of vegetable soup with grilled meat for the rest of the family

Keep a large bowl of salad in the fridge is good idea anytime- and certainly is ok with the vegans.

With company in town - many families go to buffet dinners more than they would at other times....this would be a good time for that at least once during the visit - everyone can simply pick what they want for dinner....

if the vegan gets militant - introduce him/her to a local hotel to finish the trip with, and then meet in restaurants the rest of the trip.

you really can't strip your household of their right to eat meat if the vegan demands it - it isn't fair to them....so, hopefully your vegan won't get militant on you.

  12. There are so many meals that can be made to suit everyone's tastes.  Like pasta with tomato sauce; you can add meat or meatballs after your vegan friend has taken their portion.  You could make a veggie and noodle stir fry and just cook up meat separately to add to your portion.  Like someone said, Indian food is full of yummy, satisfying vegan dishes.  We eat much like anyone else, surprisingly.  And there are millions (literally) of vegan recipes available online.  Ask your friend for some suggestions, too... he's probably had some experience with this before.

  13. Ask him.  Or offer him a choice between lawn turf, fish, linoleum or household furniture.  Or cancel the invite.  Or tell him to bring his own.  Or send him round to your local vegan fast food outlet.

  14. Here is a small list of vegan foods.

I can't really think of a food that doesn't have a vegan version somewhere.
