  1. If you are trying to lose weight you shouldn't drink soda, eat too much sugar (regular white processed sugar is filtered through animal bones), salt or candy. I'd also try a healthier cereal. You can snack on hummus with pita and/or veggies, rice cakes with tahini or peanut butter, blue corn chips and salsa, cut up raw veggies, nuts, dried fruit, granola bars....

You are never too young to go veg!

  2. You don't have to become a vegetarian before going vegan, but it will surely help you make the transition.  Cut all meat products out of your diet.

Are you overweight?  Cutting fatty meats from your diet will help you shed some pounds definitely.  And becoming vegan and leaving behind the fattening cheese and ice cream can't hurt! ;)  You may feel like you have to "give up ice cream", but there are dozens of vegan ice creams in stores now that taste even better than the real thing.  It's always fun to try new things!

You don't have to like beans or tofu to be vegan.  There are so many vegetarian meat alternative products now, you're bound to find something you love!  It is hard for you to not eat meat?  Try going grocery shopping in the natural foods aisle at your super market if you have one, if not, try at least finding the vegetarian frozen foods section.  You can still have burgers, chicken, even BBQ ribs if your store carries them!

Any age is a good age to go vegan, the younger, the better.  You could either bring your lunch to school, or buy anything that doesn't have meat in it.  I'm sure your school will serve fries, have salads, chips, etc.

At dinner time, you can simply eat what they eat with the meat left over.  My mom used to make roasts with potatoes and carrots, etc., and I would ask her to leave the meat out of mine.  You can make just about any meal vegetarian and with a little creativity, vegan.

Besides fruit, you can eat most granola bars, fruit snacks, chips, veggies, popcorn, I'm not a big "snacker" so hopefully someone else can give you better snack ideas! =)  Good luck!

  3. yes, being vegan helps you lose weight because you generally consume less calories since most of your diet has fruits and vegetables.

there is actually vegan ice cream out there; i have some at my house right now. i've been a vegan for over a year now, and a vegetarian since 6th grade. i've taught myself how to bake vegan, as well. whole foods has a lot of vegan alternatives.

the vegan ice cream that i eat is soy dream. vegan cookbooks i've bought include vegan with vengeance, vegan cupcakes take over the world, and veganomicon

start off as a vegetarian. it will be easier for you to transition. you can also just slowly start taking foods off, maybe some meat every month. and yes, 16 is a great age, just be sure to watch your diet so you get the necessary nutrients. you'll HAVE to eat tofu.

i'm a vegan alone in my family, and as far as i know, everyone in this school. it's hard sometimes, but if you're really into it, it should just make you feel special and unique.

i'm not going to go through everything you can and cannot eat, but anything that comes from animal is what you cannot eat. gelatin, glycerin, most gums, honey, etc. it's a lot of ingredient checking and reading.

being a vegan is a great leap forward, so you should double think this if you're really serious about it.

p.s. cows do need to be milked, but most of the cows that are milked live under horrible conditions.

  4. Becoming vegan is a huge step - you should probably try to start as vegetarian. Vegans do not eat anything made from animals or animal by-products.

    This includes:

*All dairy products - cheese, yogurt, eggs, cream, butter

*Anything with beef broth/chicken broth, etc. This knocks out most commercial made soup products.

*Anything made with gelatin (pudding, marshmallows, jello)

    *Honey

My sister is a vegan and trust me, it can be very difficult to accommodate her diet - whether at family gatherings or going out to eat. She pretty much can not buy anything without checking the ingredients listed, as the vast majority of commercially made food products contain animal by-products.

Regarding your food list I would GUESS

Ragu probably okay if not a meat sauce variety

    Salt/Sugar are fine

Candies - probably none. Chocolate based candies contain cream and most sugary candies contain gelatin.

Check the food labels on your favorite foods.

My sister really likes to snack on Humus with pita chips. She also likes nuts.

  5. You can eat every thing except the brain of yahoo answer participants.  You are confused in your question as the family setup youare in has different eating habits and also you are doubtful about quit eatings things that you were raised to.

  6. You need to be a vegetarian first. But milk and other dairy products are good and it is healthy for a cow to be milked, so youare not making them suffer. I am a vegetarian and I think you should try being a vegetarian for maybe 8 to 10 months and see  you that goes. You will start craving protein so eat nuts.

  7. yes too all the cereals but lucky charms the marshmallows have gelitan.

idk what ragu sauce is but you can eat everythign else on your list, except for certain candies but you just made it general.
