Vegetable Gardening ?

this is my firs time with a garden and I am a complete novice.

I started to notice I am getting discoloration and some yellow spotting on some of my plants. What does this mean? How can I stop it if it's something bad?

Also my tomato plants don't seem to be ripening, why is this? What can I do to help? Some of them have had tomatoes on them for like a month but are just firm and green.

  1. Little holes with yellow round them probably means that some insect is eating your plant leaves. Unless you are losing a lot of leaf, I would not worry about it. If you have larger yellow patches or whole leaves turning yellow, if could be because of lack of light on lower down leaves, older leaves dieing back, lack of water, or lack of some mineral e.g nitrogen or magnesium. If you are watering and fertilizing, it is probably nothing to worry about.

Be patient with your tomatoes. Sometimes they seem to hang there forever with nothing happening. But you will notice that they change color slowly and become whiter, then start going slightly yellow and soon they will be orange and ready to pick. There is nothing you can do to speed the process, and you really don't want to, as tomatoes slowly ripened on the vine will taste the best.
