Vegetarian Health???

I have been a vegetarian for almost 3 years now. I am 14.

Lately, I have been out of energy. My grandmother keeps telling me it is because I am not eating meat which is not true. I just don't eat right.

Are there any suggestions on how to boost my energy back up???

  1. You don't need to eat meat. But if you are a vegetarian, your diet needs a little more planning than someone who eats meat.

I can really say what is causing the tiredness from this information, as I don't know what you have been eating. But I would suggest seeing a dietitian, or at least seeing your doctor for advice on what you could be missing out on, and ways of increasing that.

Common deficiencies are iron, zinc, vitamin B12 and calcium. You need to make sure you are eating foods high in these.

  2. If you haven't already start taking a multivitamin with iron, also you need to make sure you are taking in calcium and iron rich vegetables or other foods (ie. Spinach, eggs, beans, broccoli, etc) As soon as I started doing that I got more energy!

  3. eat fresh vegetables and fruit

  4. Eat some more protein like eggs, nuts, peanut butter, whole grain bread. And make sure to take your vitamins

  5. eat more carbo like rice or pasta to give you energy

and also eat more protein like tofu, soy beans

eating meat may not be the only choice

  6. Make sure your diet is properly balanced. Are you getting enough protein/green leafy veg/B vitamins? Marmite's good for B vits.
