Due to failing health I have been curious about going to an all vegetable and fruit diet. Since I know nothing about it, I was wondering if anyone can point me to a good site that can help with the nutrition and such. Any answers are appreciated.

and heres a site with facts about getting adequate nutrition (its near the bottom of the page)

    http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/vegetar...

i hope this is what your looking for

  3. Some good points:

-A 2006 United Nations report summarized the devastation caused by the meat industry by calling it "one of the top two or three most significant contributors to the most serious environmental problems, at every scale from local to global.

-The American Dietetic Association states that vegetarians have “lower rates of death from ischemic heart disease; … lower blood cholesterol levels, lower blood pressure, and lower rates of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and prostate and colon cancer” and that vegetarians are less likely than meat-eaters to be obese.

-Vegetarians and vegans live, on average, six to 10 years longer than meat-eaters.

Research has shown that vegetarians are 50 percent less likely to develop heart disease, and they have 40 percent of the cancer rate of meat-eaters.Plus, meat-eaters are nine times more likely to be obese than vegans are.

The consumption of meat products has also been strongly linked to osteoporosis, Alzheimer's and asthma. Scientists have also found that vegetarians have stronger immune systems than their meat-eating friends; this means that they are less susceptible to everyday illnesses like the flu.

A plant-based diet is the best diet for kids, too: Studies have shown that vegetarian kids grow taller and have higher IQs than their classmates, and they are at a reduced risk for heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and other diseases in the long run.Studies have shown that even older people who switch to a vegetarian or vegan diet can prevent and even reverse many chronic ailments.

  4. I think living solely on fruits and vegetables is a very bad idea.  If you add beans, nuts, and grains to that list you will be fine.

  5. If you are thinking about going on an all vegetable and fruit diet you may want to think again.  Readjusting from your current diet to just fruit and veg is going to throw your body off even more than you have suggested.

Where will you get your protein from?  You aren't going to be eating meat, what about soy?  Where will you get your carbohydrates from if you aren't eating starches?

It might be best to go and change your diet to a healthy one, low in fats, sugars, salts, etc and cut out all processed foods.  That way you can still eat meat, vegetables, fruit and good wholesome foods instead of only fruits and veg.

If you do this though, it is probably safest to go to the Doctor and have a blood test before and at a couple weeks into your new 'diet'.  Taking multi vitamins would be a must too.

Whatever you plan on doing, you should read up on the sites that were suggested.  Seeing a dietician AND talking to your Doctor are probably the best way to go though, as they will be able to help you plan a new diet which will able you to get all your vitamins and minerals...
