Question:

Vegetarian / Vegan Registry?

Is there a website where people who don't eat meat (or meat and dairy) can register to help increase the overall count?

I think there's a large number of them who haven't been counted simply because they haven't registered in any way.

I travel around the country for my job and I encounter far too many, everywhere I go, for the percentage to be as low as they say it is.

  1. The statistical count of how many Americans are vegetarians are by no means calculated by a registry. People take samples of what people eat around America and derive a number from that.

  2. The numbers are probably calculated from some random sampling and statistical extrapolation.

A registry is a really cool idea though.

  3. As the fellow said the last time you posted this  probably not but should be.

  4. Even the registry would give an inaccurate count.

The amount of registrants would depend heavily upon advertising and access to the registry. (If it was online, for example, that would cut out anyone who didn't have computer access.) Additionally, the advertising would likely be not to the general public, but vegetarian-interest groups. This could artificially inflate the number.

In order to get an accurate percentage, the sample would need to be general and widespread, with no focus on special groups. I suppose we could use put a question on the census, but beyond that, the number will be flawed no matter what.
