  1. thats a good question.

because veggie burgers are wicked good, healthy, and people didnt slaughter an animal to make it.

  2. To imitate isn't the same thing as having the original.

'Imitation meat' - just is something that makes it easier to fit within a society that many times feels that the only thing that a vegetarian/vegan would eat are salads.  The vegetarian/vegan group in Houston just had a booth at an event where they served 'hot dogs' that were not meat based but totally vegetarian/vegan.  I thought it a great approach opens others eyes to a bigger picture and choices that are in front of them than they considered.

Great way to grab a quick meal when you are short on time and need to eat something quick and easy.  A Gardenburger is ready in 90 seconds - a simple salad or some steamed veggies that you can buy already cleaned and ready to go in the freezer section - put that with a banana that you can eat while driving - you got a meal in under 5 minutes.

You don't get the negative cholesterol that you get with animal meat.  For those with heart problems and cholesterol problems - a very BIG PLUS.

Most vegetarians/vegans were meat eaters prior to becoming vegetarian/vegan.  They are making a personal choice for personal reasons - many times based upon health, sometimes for ethical reasons, some for religious reasons - many times a combination of all the above with some not even mentioned here.

    Just a personal choice.

  3. It's more the fast food packing (burgers, hot dogs) then the taste. Veggie fake meat doesn't really taste like meat, but they make for a quick meal compared to cooking a veggie/bean casserole for example.

They are good on the BBQ grill when you don't have the time for making veggie kabobs, etc.

  4. it's not just the taste, but they can be better for you, or that like me you just don't want to eat animals. i still cook meat for my hubby though, who is a huge fan of red meat! however i use veggi mince  a lot, spag bol, chilli, cottage pie etc, which he eats very happily, he says that the mince can taste alot better than meat it's all down to what you put in it, and boy is it quicker too!!!! and less fat.

  5. Personally, I don't really care for meat substitutes. I don't like the idea of eating animal flesh and even faux meat grosses me out.

I like tofu because it doesn't try to be meat. It's just delicious.

    Good question though.

I guess it all depends on your reason for becoming vegetarian. If you still like meat but are cutting it out of your diet soley for health reasons, then fake meat would be appealing.

  6. I'm a vegan and have never come across anything that tastes exactly like meat. However there are some that are very good and so long as they haven't killed or tortured or enslaves animals to make them, then it makes perfect sense to eat a meat sustitute. As a vegan I don't deny that meat tastes good, that's not the point. I don't eat because of where it comes from, nothing more.

  7. Because it does not matter what it tastes like. What matters is how it is made and what it is made from.

  8. Personally, I wasn't always a vegetarian/vegan. I went through a time where I liked chicken and hamburgers a little. Never much, but it was a taste I did grow up enjoying. I never liked bacon, seafood, etc.

As a vegan, I still like faux hamburgers. After all, we like the 'taste' in the first place- because it's good if it came from an animal or not. It's the taste, maybe a bit of Americana as well. Maybe some thing we grew up with.

Great thing is, you can enjoy the taste without the murder behind it. = )

I do know a lot of veggies who don't want to eat it. Reminds them too much of the real deal or...they just prefer raw, whole, or simpler dishes.

  9. Meat is gross.

    Meat is filthy.

    Meat is unhealthy.

    Meat makes you fat.

    Meat is MURDER.

  10. Becuase its not contributing to animal cruelty, and yes it is better for you because it has no cholesterol (unless you add animal products), less fat, etc.

  11. Healthy and nothing suffered for you to eat  they taste so good , you  r not eating dead animals and they give u a good healthy meal and leave u feeling guilt free and good about urself!!

  12. The eating of faux meat is much different than the eating of  actual meat. No animal has to die in order for a boca burger to be produced. I am against the cruelty behind the production of the burger and the health concerns regarding the consumption of meat.

Since faux meat is healthier( in cholesterol, saturated fat, etc) and there is no cruelty involved, than the consumption of the product is no different that eating any other vegetarian food.

I myself, liken it to a person who is watching cholesterol who switches from regular bacon to turkey bacon. Should the person avoid turkey bacon because regular bacon is high in cholesterol?.. no, because what they are looking for is something healthier, just the same as vegetarians are looking for a cruelty free and healthier alternative so they choose fake meats.
