Do you eat tofu or any soy product? How about fish?

I'm thinking of becoming a vegetarian but don't know where to start.

  1. Start with google.  Soy is sort of an overkill, tons of other sources of what it contains.  I keep 3 or 4 types of beans in the house, I put them in salads and other dishes.

I do put a very abundant soy protein powder in my hot cereal.

My hot cereal contains 24 items that I mix in a big tupperware as needed and scoop out of it every morning.  I have in there various berries, craisins, honey, cinnamon, grains, ground nuts, oatmeal, quinoa, wheat, etc.

Just that cereal gives me more amino acids and other nutrients than any of you are getting.  I eat that about 6 or 7 mornings a week.  I find a small rice cooker is the easiest way to cook hot cereal, just push the button and walk away.

Other meals will contain just about anything you can buy except meat.  I did the research to find out how to be a healthy vegetarian.  My browser has about 300 bookmarks from my research.  I looked for things like essential amino acids and their food sources.  If you don't know, amino acids are what our bodies use to make protein the way it wants.  If  you look at this site, you'll find tons of plant foods that are abundant in healthy natural protein.  http://www.whfoods.org/foodstoc.php

Part of the solution for me is to be aware of what various foods have in them.  Then I know what I'm getting and when I'm getting the right stuff.

Other searches were for things like essential vitamins and their food sources.   Essential fatty acids and their food sources.  The list goes on, you get the idea.  The result from all of the research is a shopping list of things to keep around in the house.  I'm not a strict vegetarian.  I still have a weakness for a pizza or a hamburger now and then, but very rarely.

  2. Vegetarian is a "plant based diet".

Depeneding on your likes and dislikes, you may want to check out vegan resources as well.

    Good luck

  3. To my understanding you can not eat chicken, because it's considered a meat.

  4. I eat everything that a meat eater does, just without the meat.  Bocca, Morningstar Farms and Gardenburger make great fake meat products.  Especially the fake chicken ones.

  5. I am an ovo-lacto type vegetarian (not a vegan).  I eat dairy products and cheese, but not too  much of these.  I enjoy tofu and soy products.

You could either cut out all meat and/or dairy products totally or wean yourself away from them.  I would suggest the second.  It allows your body to adjust. One of the worst things in any dietary change is to force yourself into too quickly and then you feel deprived and get cravings.  That doesn't work well.

There are some good recipes here:  http://www.vegweb.com/

and cooking advice.  As to where to start, try making a list of

dishes you enjoy that are or could easily be vegetarian.  Lots of curries of all kinds take well to tofu instead of meats.  Pasta dishes, too.

I have avoided flesh eating since 1970.  I always disliked eating meat from when I was little.  Good luck!

  6. I eat eggs and milk products, but not any animal flesh (which would include fish and assorted sea creatures.)    I do have a lot of soy products in my diet.

Some of the simplest, easiest meals for me are:

    -A can of lentil soup

    -A peanut butter sandwich

-Macaroni and cheese with fake ground beef in it.

-A stirfry made from pre-packaged sauce and veggies with extra firm tofu instead of meat. eg. http://www.generalmills.com/corporate/br...

  7. JUST EAT WHAT'S IN THE PRODUCE AISLE

  8. no to anything that is from an animal body part or comes from body part such as wings, egg, milk, cheese, meat

yes to veggies and fruits, tofu, soy products, penaut butter, nuts

advice start small work yourself up

  9. they dont eat meat ????are you slow?

  10. I'm vegetarian and I don't eat any meat (duh) lol.  Also, I choose not to eat fish, but you can because it gives you a lot of protein.  I eat eggs, but this is in matter of opinion as well.  Next, I eat many fruits and vegetables as I can.  This helps you stay healthy while being vegetarian.  Lastly, you can take vitamins, this helps a great deal.

  11. I actually don't really like tofu by itself. I eat a lot of things with soy though, like soymilk and soy pudding. I never drink plai milk by itself, and I also don't eat a lot of dairy that often. I love boca burgers and morningstar things. They have burgers, bacon, and loads of other products. Amy's has organic, vegetarian foods also. I see a lot in Whole Foods. Real vegetarians don't eat fish, unless you want to be a pescatarian. You can't eat gelatin, things like jello, marshmellows, and some candy. It's not bad though. Try http://goveg.com/ and also peta2, they have lists of vegetarian/vegan foods and also tips to help you

  12. EAT - tofu, soy products, fish, vegetables, water..and it sometimes depends on the person

    DONT EAT - meat

  13. hnn!

this depends on what type of vegetarian you want to be!!

    there are several main types~~

Semi-vegetarians: they exclude most meat but with a few exceptions...

Ie: Pescetarians exclude eating all land animals but still eat seafood..so you can still eat fish here...

lacto-ovo Vegetarians:  they exclude eating all meat...but however can still eat milk products and products from animals that the animal has produced without them being kiled..so you can eat eggs still if you want ~~

Vegans: these are people who do not eat any type of meat..and not even any animal products like milk, cheese or eggs.~~

You can still eat tofu when you are any type of vegetarian!! there is no meat there~ its made from Soy beans ..~~ Soy products are okay...

you can eat fish if you decided to be pescetarian [semi-vegetarian] but some people do not call this vegetarian...but it can be a first step to start becoming a full vegetarian :D

    I'm still on this step now> >

    so good luck :D:D

  14. I drink soy milk instead of real milk. But I do eat dairy products like Yogurt, cheese, Ice cream... Not being a hypocrite, but I dont like the taste of milk. I try not to eat eggs too often.

  15. Technically, vegetarians don't eat meat from any animal, including fish and other seafood.  Some vegetarians (as well as non-vegetarians) eat tofu and other soyfoods for protein, but there are other ways to get protein as well.  Beans and whole grains are other good, non-meat protein sources.  Also make sure to include lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, and you shouldn't have any problem eating a balanced diet.

To help you get started, you should look into buying a basic vegetarian cookbook.  They'll often start with an introduction on how to plan your menu and what kinds of basic foods you should stock your kitchen with.  Most bookstores will have a vegetarian section within cookbooks, so go browse around and buy one that looks good to you.

If you're having trouble transitioning, try cutting out meat gradually.  Start with one meat-free day each week, then once you get more experience cooking without meat, increase your meat-free days until you cut it out entirely.

    Good luck!

  16. Fruits, veggies, whole grains, legumes, etc...

Nope, I don't eat fish. In fact, I don't eat any meat.
