Question:

Vegetarian.... What to eat?

I just became a vegetarian and i am looking for good foods to eat to get the right amount of protein and vitamins. Any good recepies or just plain snack foods to keep up my energy? Also what is a good vitamin supplement to start taking to make sure i am getting good nutrition.

  1. i have a vegetarian friend and when she eats dinner she sometimes eats veggie lasagna, a fruit salad and tofu.

    Also, everything she needs she gets, she eats everything from the food pyramid.

    thats a good meal and it should keep a person's diet balanced.


  2. Soy milk, tofu, anything and everything with any kind of bean in it, those are all good.  Potatoes and sweet potatoes all day long will make you happy and strong.

    Peanut butter! Use it on a lot of stuff, if you like it. It goes good on bread, tortillas, sandwiches, celery, apples, raisins (well, the raisins kind of go "in " in the peanut butter), sometimes it's good in rice and you can mix it up and eat it with a spoon. It is even good right out of the jar! I also really like tofu and peanut butter sandwiches or tortillas.

    Most mexican food is great Take any Spanish/Mexican recipes you know and remove the meat (replace with beans, if you're going to end up with nothing but tomato sauce and spices otherwise, refried beans are great and they add plenty of texture)!!  Taco Shells and Tortillas are generally either pure corn or flour, so have at them!

    You can also use the tortillas to create yummy fruit/vegetable/tofu wraps. Lettuce, tomato, green onions, tofu, soy sauce, and maybe some rice as well.

    Here are some good recipes:

    Stir fry- You need cut up tofu, soy sauce, olive oil, steamed veggies, and cooked rice

    Get a frying pan and coat it with olive oil. The put the tofu in the pan and brown each side of it. Next, add the veggies. Add a little soy sauce and put in the rice. Mix everything up and then let it sit on the stove, occasionally stirring it to make sure it doesn't burn. After about a minute and a half of that put it in a bowl and enjoy!

    Hummus- chick peas, lemon juice, paprika, cumin, black pepper, and any other spices/seasonings you like

    Puree the chick peas. Then add a little lemon juice, paprika, pepper, and other spices. Then stir. Serve with a pita, with cucumbers, or on a veggie wrap.

  6. for a supllement one that contains zinc, iron, b12

    getting protein just means combining things eg , rice n beans

    or cheese and toast ,or beans and toast, to get all the amino acids

    good food for vegetarians can be yoghurt, eggs , tofu , nuts , beans , lentils
