Vegetarian accidentally ate ham?

I have been a vegetarian for over a year and a half now,and I'm really sensitive regarding animal issues.Yesterday, I told my grandpa to bring me a cheese pie this morning and when I woke up I found the pie on the table.I started nibbling on it when after some nibbles I found out that it was a cheese and ham pie!!After spitting out my munch and trying for much time to puke out(I never manage to vomit) and washing my teeth,I have been torturing myself to make out whether I have eaten ham or not because I am not sure...but even so,the pie was still with ham which means fat from the ham was still there.I am very upset till now,and I haven't eaten anything since this morning because I'm totally grossed and my stomach aches from anxiety(I'm not that sure though, could have been the meat)...I don't know what to do now...I mean, even if I didn't eat ham,I did eat some of the fat and it so grosses me out!!

  1. dont worry, everybody slips up.

  2. Have you never eaten any meat of any kind in your life...as a child?  You have chosen a certain lifestyle, and it sounds like you stick to it really well...give yourself a break!  I've probably eaten 3 whole pigs in my lifetime..and who knows how many cows.

  3. oh, you're fine

  4. calm down. you will be ok. i am sure gramps didnt mean to upset you.

  5. Believe it or not, the World will not end because you ate meat.I mean come on it isn't poison.

You dod not specify to Grandpa to bring just cheese with no ham.

In my own opinion you are being childish and stupid over a small amount or meat.

  6. what the f is a cheese pie ew?

why woud u eat something called a cheese pie?

why do u tell ur grandpa wat to do?

how can u eat something like that 4 brekfest?

    i hope u feel better

  7. this is not a question

You have a grandpa you can "tell" to bring you food, be grateful for that.

If i told my granfather what to do when he was alive i'd of got a smack around the head !

  8. yea it's gross, but don't beat yourself up! it was an accident... it was eaten.... move on.  don't try puking and relax so your stomache isn't a mess and you can continue to eat like normal... it's an accident.  it happens.  it's very hard to be completely free of animal products and we slip up sometimes... i've been a veg almost 15 years and i STILL realize sometimes that something i ate had meat and i'm very upset and grossed out by it but i know i didn't do it on purpose and now i learned a lesson to be more careful, ask more questions, check labels better etc.  let your grandpa know what happened- that you don't eat meat and next time for no meat please :)  (but be kind- be thankful that he took the time to get/make you the pie... suggest someone else who'd be happy to eat ).

  9. RELAX!! ok, i know your freaking out. im trying to be a Vegetarian and i can only imagine what your going through! i feel bad for you, but just try and calm down. it was NOT your fault. the fluffy, furry, scaley, and otherwise lil oinky animals of the world still luv ya! they understand it was an accident!! =] dont fret, it was a mistake.... it wont happen again =]

  10. It's not like you knew it had meat before you ate it. Forgive yourself and move on with your life.

  11. There is nothing you can do.  You didn't know and now you move on.

  12. I understand your ick factor here, I am a vegetarian also. Honestly though, I would just try to let it go. It was an accident, and chances are if you did eat some ham, it wasn't very much at all. There's not really anything else you can do about it, you know? I sympathize with your feelings, but don't be so hard on yourself. Just keep on with not eating meat and in the future, I would probably gently remind anyone bringing food over that you don't eat meat.

  13. It's all in a state of mind.  Honestly you won't die.  Just don't think about it and you will be fine.  After all, you must have eatten meat before then if you said you have been a vegetarian for a year and a half.

  14. It happens. You didn't mean to, you're thinking of the animals so you're a good person. I ate some chocolate the other day that had milk powder in. Whoops. Just learn from your mistakes, that's all that matters.

I'm very happy that you're thinking about the animals. Perhaps you could take it a step further and apply the same compassion to the animals that are used, abused and killed for cheese and eggs?...

Dairy cows are forcefully impregnated every year to have a calf, as they can only be milked when they're having babies. Most of the new borns are torn from their mothers and are sent off to be grown as veal and killed after a few weeks and a few remain to replace their mothers, when they are 'spent'. The cows are selectively bred and intensly farmed so much that they produce around 10x as much milk as they naturally would, making their mammary glands so swollen that they droop and prevent the poor cow from moving around much. This often leads to mastitis, as well, a painful udder infection that results in traces of blood and pus entering the milk. If you find this hard to believe, I can look up the law that stipulates how many million cells of pus per litre of milk is legal. The cows are forced to do the equivalent of around 6 hours jogging a day, so it's no wonder they become completely knackered by the age of four, when they are sent to the slaughterhouse. They can live to around 25. The cows are sometimes still pregnant when they are butchered, and spill milk over the killing floor.

You sound like a good person, so I hope you will take this into consideration and aim to make the next animal friendly step to veganism. I did so a year ago, after being vegetarian for a year and half like you, and have never looked back.

  15. Why didn't you tell your grandpa that you don't eat meat anymore? Serves you right in a way. But it was just a mistake, man. Forget about it and get on with life, and stop making a song and dance of it by trying to throw up etc. That is really silly.

  16. We all have things like this happen.  I accidentally ate lard in chips at my Mom and Dad's house.  I was grossed out, sad, and embarrassed.  That was a few weeks ago.  I am pretty much over it now.  Things like this just happen, and they make us more weary.  Just be sure to only eat things that have an ingredient list available.

  17. it isnt the end of the world, you still have the same morals as it was not done intentionally. I knwo its horrid- i have been a vegetarian almost 20 yrs and it does still happen once in a while esp when other people are involved...you probably didnt consume any but there isnt much that can be done!

try and eat something light and a drink to perk you up again

  18. it only happened acidentily dint it so you would not have wanted to do it if you knew.anyway why be a vegaterian anyway animals wouldent be so tasty if we wernt ment to eat them!

  19. I'm muslim and made my way through half a pack of pringles smokey bacon before I realized what it was.... Lesson of the story, don't let anybody else get you food (unless they're also vegetarian/muslim).

  20. its just ham love not the end of the world your lucky you have food children around the world don't even have clean water and your complaining that you ate a tiny bit of ham and can you answer my question pls :)http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?...

  21. I believe most vegetarians accidently mess up a time or two or give in to a craving. There is a girl i work with thats vegetarian and she munched on one pork egg roll for lunch and knew she was doing it. But just relax, the ham was probably hidden and you didnt know. Your grandpa should know not to put ham in the cheese pie. By the way, a cheese pie sounds icky.

  22. calm it, I have been vegetarien for five years now just turned vegan and we all make mistakes. Just learn from them and go slap your grandpa,, haha

  23. And have you taken the pie's feelings into account on this too? I mean call me a nit-picker but I don't see anyone doing much fretting about Mr Pastry over here do you? Equal rights for all food stuff ingredients that's what I say.

  24. Chill out, you're still alive aren't you??  Don't sweat the small stuff.

  25. Geez, Relax!!

Accidents happen in life, and if that's the worst thing that ever happens to you, count your blessings!!
