  1. If you want to gain weight, first you should learn that rest is just as important as lifting weights. If you don't give your muscles time to recover, you will keep damaging tissue cell growth will not be able to keep up.

You do not need to eat dairy and eggs for protein. You can get more than enough protein from bread, pasta, cereals, beans, peas, lentils, nuts and seeds. Even vegetables contain small amounts of protein but they can add a significant chunk through the day.

If you can do more than 12 reps with a weight, you need to increase it until you can only do between 8 and 12 on the first set. To track results, you should keep a log of every set that you do with the weight and number of reps. It may also help to record the amount of time that you rested in between sets. You should only be resting for about 30 seconds until you start the next set and 2-3 minutes between different exercises.

  2. Two additional servings of complex carbohydrates a day and one extra serving of legumes or soy protein and you should be set.

Just remember, since you want to gain muscle, go for 3-4 sets maximum, 6-8 reps per set, medium to high weights.  Don't overwork the muscles, let each set rest at least 5 (pref 7) days before working it again.

  3. Eat peanuts and other nuts, and also peanut butter. They are high in protein and will help increase your energy and put on weight. Avocados are also very good for protein and weight gain. Eat plenty of rice, pasta, potato. You can eat vegetarian cheese which has the same protein as normal cheese. Granary bread, cereal, milk will all help you. Basically, you need to go for food which is high in protein and carbohydrates.

Eat regularly and often. Snack between meals with nuts and seeds, eg. pumpkin seeds, and you will put on weight and have more energy.

    Good luck.

  4. Nuts and avocados are high in healthy fats so it's good for you and will start helping you gain weight too :)
