Question:

Vegetarian diet help...?

I'm against animal cruelty and animal testing. Period. I'm not vegetarian, but I know that the meat they serve at school is treated horribly. We don't have a salad bar. It's basically all meat. There are no vegan options, either. How can I eat right at school? I just don't feel comfortable eating that meat.

  1. Bring your own lunch. Learn how to cook. If you clean up your messes, it will be great for you and your parents.

Salad is not a lunch, no matter how you look at it. Some people may think of Caesar salad or chef's salad as a lunch but there's no way that even if you had a salad bar that it would offer a decent meal.

If you're against animal cruelty, have you watched Earthlings?

Bread, pasta, cereal, rice, beans, peas, lentil, nuts, seeds, fruits and veggies can easily offer everything that you need except B12.

All vegetarians should take a B12 supplement regularly since most people eat meat, dairy AND fortified cereals yet still have a B12 status that is lower than recommended.

It may help you if you see proof that vegan people have the same potential as anyone else.

If you need meat or dairy during any stage of your life or to live any certain lifestyle, why does the American Dietetic Association say otherwise?

  2. You can bring lunch to school.

  3. Sandwiches like PB and J/etc or tofurkey or lightlife deli slices with tomato and hummus, pita sandwhiches with hummus and tabouli, chicapeas and tomato, basic salad, basic cold/raw soup or stew/gazpacho, pasta salad, quinoa or couscous and beans or lentils with chickapeas, cold soup/gazpacho, roll-ups/wraps in tortilla with fixins, vegan tuna or vegan egg or potato salad, vegetables with rice, gobi aloo, vegan somen salad or other pasta salad, dumplings, samosas, small vegan bagel or pita pizzas with cream cheese and veggies.

Sides to go with lunch: dried fruits, nuts, vegetables, fruits, applesauce, hard and soft pretzels, homemade chips (potato, kale, tortilla, corn, banana, pita, etc), seeds (sunflower, pumpkin), vegan cookies, homemade bars (like the recipes I gave you in another answer), vegan muffins, vegan brownies, granola, crackers, breads, fries, plantin, trail mix, luna bar, chips or veggies and dip.

    Sandwhich ideas:

Tofurky or Lightlife deli-slices with hummus, or mustard, or vegan mayo, or other spread, with veggies on sliced bread, sub bread, or pita bread. Or just hummus or vegan mayo or other spread with veggies and/or fruit. Also peanut or almond butter with fruits and/or veggies such as bananas, avocado, apples, strawberries, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, blueberries, etc. Hummus with shredded carrots and celery with a flour tortilla or pita bread. Falafel with carrots, sprouts and hummus is good. Potato salad or chickpea salad or vegan chicken salad or vegan tuna is good. Tempeh bacon, tvp crumbles, or seitan slices or chunks sand veggie sandwich's. Beans and a spread with sprouts and other veggies on a pita bread is good. Rice, avocado and peanut butter. Avocado and lettuce are almost essentials in most of my sandwiches!

  4. There has to be *something* that isn't meat....

  5. Bring your own lunch, peanut butter & jelly sandwich on monday, Tomato &Cheese on tuesday, tossed salad in a plastic bowl on wednesday, peanut butter ad sliced banana on thursday, tuna salad on baby spinich on friday etc.

  6. I have been a vegetarian since i was like in 1st grade by choice. For me lets say it was taco day i would ask for a taco shell with just cheese and lettuce. People thought it was weird, but oh well. And this year i buy cookies and little snacks and when i get home i just have a large dinner.  I usually keep a few granola bars on me or something in my book bag. You can bring a lunch also, or if one of your friends did share with them as long as it isn't meat. You just got to make adjustments to your life. I have no problem with it now because i know what i have to do to have a good diet and not be hungry through out the day. My family aren't vegetarians, but I got them to respect my choices so they always make something that i will like and be able to eat too.

    Good luck! :]
