I am from India, travelling to costa rica for a week in July. What can I expect to find for vegetarians there? I eat eggs and dairy products. I will be staying in San Jose and might have a day for touring nearby place(s). Any Indian restaurants recommended?

  1. Hi,

Costa Rican cuisine consists mostly of white rice, black beans, vegetables and salads. Most dishes are usually served with either steak, fish, chicken or pork. If you want the veggie option skip the animal protein or exchange it for eggs. If you eat seafood there are many good dishes available.

There are also some veggie restaurants, but these are mostly lunch places.

The one Indian restaurant that I am aware of is the Taj Mahal (what a creative name) located in Escazú.

    Good luck,

    Carlos

  2. Go to http://www.peta.org. They have links to help you find vegetarian restaurants anywhere in the world.

  3. Tin Jo Restaurant in downtown San José, the best asian cuisine you can find! Indian, japanese, chinese, etc. And with a complete vegetarian menu.

  4. There are plenty of options for vegetarian meals in Costa Rica. In San Jose check out Vishnu on Calle Central between Aves 6 and 7. Also Restaurante Shakti on the corner of Ave 8 and Calle 13 is good
