  1. Protein- http://www.vegsoc.org/info/protein.html

    Iron- http://www.vegsoc.org/info/iron.html

A varied diet is good because you get more nutrients if you eat a wide variety of foods.

Iron rich foods include nuts, green leafy veg, chickpeas, hummus, wholegrains & beans

Protein rich foods include tofu, soy milk, nuts/seeds & beans.

But there are *many* sources of both protein & iron- I could go on forever.

  2. SOY!

    (morningstar farms)

    ben.

  3. For an excellent guide to vegetarian check out the website listed below.  You can keep it handy  to answer most of the questions you may have re: vegetarian diets.

  4. milk,yoghurt,raw nuts,dried figs,green veggies,tofu,beans,cereals,grains and legumes

  5. You only need two servings of protein per day. For that you can eat tofu and soy products, like morningstar products. Look up tofu recipes on google, they're delicious.

  6. You don't need that much protein, only .3 to .5 grams per pound of body weight daily.  And unless you're starving yourself or on a junk food diet, it's almost impossible to be protein deficient.  And if you eat too much, it causes you to lose calcium and does a number on your kidneys.

However, nuts and nut butters, beans, tofu, and tempeh are all good sources of protein.

As for iron and calcium, check out www.vrg.org, which has tables of foods rich in both nutrients.  Make sure you eat or drink something rich in vitamin C with your vegetarian iron source to increase absorption.
