Vegetarian in NYC?

Question

Help!! My boyfriend is taking me to NYC to celebrate my birthday! He told me to pick any 5 star restaurant. I am a vegetarian and he loves meat. The ones I have been looking at have Chef's Tasting and Prixe Fix and do not look veg friendly. The restaurants that have Veg Tasting menus say that it's required for the whole table, which won't work for us either. Please help!!

The first answerer is right...he should be able to get through ONE vegetarian meal if he cares about you.

That said, if he HAS to have the taste of meat, Zen Palate is good...it's not five star but they have all vegetarian food with many dishes made with meat eaters in mind.  They make dishes with seitan, tofu and wheat gluten that taste just like meat.  He'll never know the difference.

There are tons of vegetarian and veg-friendly restaurants in NYC.  Your boyfriend, for at least one meal, should be willing to go to an upscale vegetarian place, which do exist in NYC.   Hey, it's YOUR birthday, right?  Candle 79, at 79th and Lex, is quite nice.  There's also Gobo in the Village, and another location not far from Candle 79 on the Upper East Side.  Gobo is Asian and is supposed to enliven all five senses.

One place my boyfriend and I always go to in NYC is Pure Food and Wine, an upscale raw place that has an exquisite tasting menu.  But he's vegetarian, and I'm vegan, so he's game for a raw foods experience.

Candle 79 at 79th and Lex. Joy and Bart the owners are fabulous people and their restaurant will make even carnivores fall in love with it. The environment is very relaxing and peaceful, they also have a great sake selection!
