Question:

Vegetarian muscle-building?

I'm a vegetarian, and I just made a deal with my friend that he would go vegetarian if I can find a (cheap) way for him to get all the protein he needs without eating meat.

He's trying to build muscle, so he says he needs 170g protein a day... any suggestions?

  1. Beans, meat substitutes, clif builders bars, kashi protein powder, organic food bars, soy milk, peanuts, lentils, peanut butter, almonds, almond butter, dairy (if he is going to eat dairy), and egg whites (if he is going to eat eggs).

  2. Protein shakes but their kinda expensive. 170g is a lot. Beans have protein in them but you would have to eat a ton of beans to get to 170g. Nuts also have a lot of protein. I would stick with protein shakes to get to 170g though.

  3. Breads, pastas, cereals, rice, beans, peas, lentils, nuts and seeds are all excellent sources of protein. If his appetite cannot handle enough food to reach his protein goals, two or three protein shakes can help him reach that goal fairly easily.
