  1. I am a vegetarian, have been one for 5 years (Im trying to become vegan) I'm also the only vegetarian in the family.

Becoming a vegetarian, I took breaks (ate meat only once a week, til I got used to not eating it) then I bought mock meat (fake meat made out of soy, veggies)

Read each of these sites, they will help you on how to become a vegetarian the easy way.

Your mom is probably worried that you aren't going to be healthy while being a vegetarian. Show her some sites or articles on how being vegetarian reduces the risk of heart attacks. But remember, you have to eat healthy.

Show her these sites and read them together :

Try to do chores or something to earn money so you can buy your own food - that way, your mom doesn't have to buy it and you will be able to be a vegetarian.

Edit : If your family is having chicken that night, pull out your vegetarian chicken tenders :) They taste just like chicken. You should buy Morning Star products or Yves.

  2. I'm vegetarian, and I started about 2 years ago.  I'm the only vegetarian in my family too.

I started really rather gradually--first I stopped eating beef, and after a while cut pork out of my diet...then poultry, fish, etc. It feel like that made it easier for me to make the adjustment.

I understand that your mom doesn't want to buy separate foods. I have a few suggestions. First, what I do is I end up eating a lot of side dishes for family dinners. And that ends up being fine.

Second, for some recipes, my mom has been great and will leave out meat that's unnecessary (like in making a soup or lasagna). I don't know if your mom will compromise that much, but it's worth a shot.

You could also volunteer to make some part of dinner that you and your family could make. Like a vegetarian anti-pasto side dish or something.

And my last suggestion is: See if your family would like to try some new foods with you. I ended up trying a lot of new foods, and new fruits and veggies and it was a lot of fun. For example, after doing some reading, I decided to try hummus. Now my mom buys it regularly because my dad loves it too.

So make sure you are eating a balanced diet...keep peanut butter on hand for emergencies! :)

Your mom will be okay with it once she sees that you are making healthy choices. Some meat-eaters make way too big a deal of it. But hang in there and it will turn out great.

  3. go to peta.com that helped me switch to vegan  =^..^=

  4. I'm a vegetarian! i started since i was 8. i thought it was mean how they killed animals. okay no that i read the line After the second question, is SO agree with you. just buy your food with your money. Or eat lots of salad. just convince your mom that its healthy and you are more comfortable with the idea of being a vegetarian

  5. how many of you are vegetarian.?- i am

and how did you get to make the full switch.?- i was born being a vegetarian

see my mom doesnt want me to go full vegetarian but i want to because i think its wrong to eat animals.

and anopther issue. im the only one in my family that is vegetarian. so my mom doesnt want to have to buy me seperate foods.

    so what should i do.?

    and any meal ideas.??

just have your mom buy the same stuff but don't eat anything with animal in it.

  6. I went through the exact same problem I'm still the only one in my family that is a vegetarian! As for buying the foods you can ask your mom for money and do your own shopping. So when she's shopping for meat ect. you go on your own to the vegetarian section and pick whatever you want! iT'S REAL SIMPLE!!!!

  7. - How many of you are vegetarian?

    * I was for 2 years. Now I'm vegan

    - How did you get to make the full switch?

    * I began only eating white meat, which is pretty unfair but then stopped all meat consumption (inc. geletine)

    - See my mom doesnt want me to go full vegetarian but i want to because i think its wrong to eat animals.

    * Prove your point. Go on youtube and show her all the grusome footage of factory farming etc.

    - And anopther issue. im the only one in my family that is vegetarian. so my mom doesnt want to have to buy me seperate foods.

    * I'm the only vegan in the family. Do you already buy fresh fruit and vegies? You don't always need much more than that.

There are TONS of recipes on the internet.

  8. I'm the only veggie in my immediate family too, and my mum is always complaining about how much my food costs.

I stopped eating meat altogether, not bit by bit or anything.

Maybe you should just eat salads n things like that so your mum dosnt have to buy you tofu or Quorn?

    :)

  9. I switched around age 8 when I discovered it was possible not to eat animals. Until two years ago I was also the only vegetarian in a omnivore home. Now I'm a vegan ;)

Rest easily though, it is possible. Your mom is probably concerned with your health, so read up on how to have a balanced vegetarian diet and share with her. Also assure her she won't have to necessarily buy you separate foods - you should be eating lots of vegetables, fruits, legumes etc. anyway if you're healthy. Look up a couple simple vegetarian recipes and ask her if you can cook them together - make a project out of it, make her involved, and have fun!

I just did a quicky menu for someone else that I can post for you too...
