Question:

Vegetarian ?

I've tried a few times to become a vegetarian...but I never really knew exactly how to go about doing that..

My family and my friends don't support me with it...but it's something I've always wanted to do

my mom complains that vegetables and fruits are too expensive to buy..but whatever? I mean if we DIDN'T buy all the junk food c**p my family seems to eat on a daily basis...we should definately have enough money for healthier foods, right?

plus I have a job..so I can buy my own foods..

but what I want to know is how exactly do I become a vegetarian? What do I cut out of my eating habits?

and how do you think I can convince my family to allow me to do what I want to do? It should be my choice not theirs right?

help me outttt, plzz

  1. I have been vegetarian but not very strict for a few years now.  For me it was a gradual process.  I started with eliminating red meat and then other meats as well over a few years time.  However I do have once in a while a craving for chicken and I give in like once every six weeks or so.  The one thing that you have to be getting more of is protein from other food sources, such as beans, nuts, and even grains like guinoa.  If your family is not supportive they just don't understand.  It is not like you are eating junk food all the time you actually are having a healthy lifestyle as long as you are having balance within your diet even as a vegetarian.  I will also give you the same advise an ayervedic healer told me.  Trust yourself and your instincts also trust your cravings.  If you have a craving it is your body telling you something so listen to it.  You don't have to be strict and regiment about the diet just go with what feel right with your own body.  Your body will tell you.  Happy eating.

  2. I've been a vegetarian since I was like eight and my family never supported me but now that I'm a vegetarian I never want to go back, Don't just cut some meats out when you start, you have to stop eating meat altogether or you may go back. Start eating protein rich foods like nuts and vegetarian beans and its better to be a vegetarian than a vegan because dairy is also a good source of protein and listen to your heart not what others say! good luck

  3. Hey! Im not a veggietarian but I'm trying to work my way up. I think the bast way to start is stop eating red meats. This means eating no mammals, just poultry and fish. (This is the satge I am at) Next, only eat fish. Finally, cut out all animals. My family buys lots of fruit and vegitables but my mom is worred I won't get protien if I am a veggie because I don't like beans. I don't think it will be a problem because I can eat immitation meat and take vitimins if I need too. If I do end up becomming a veggie I don't think I will tell people like the kids at school because I don't expect much support from them. Good luck and stay strong! : )

hope this will help out some this time around - good luck !

  5. Talk to your family and tell them you would apperciate it if they helped because it's your choice and ppl say vegetarians live longer...i myself am a meat eater...but my mom is a vegetarian she eats all things except

Chicken beef, fish, shrimp, eggs and anything with like meats! :) LOL but she does eat some things with egg contents such a mayo...

it's hard but theres alot of great foods out there that dont have meat! GOOGLE helps :)

  6. Umm to become vegetarian you have to stop eating meat, as long as you're not going vegan you can still eat eggs and dairy.  Just tell your family how you feel strongly about this and ask them for their support, they should already be eating fruits and veggies in their daily diet, so you're not asking for anything extraordinary in asking for a little more of those to be purchased.  If you do have a part time job to buy your own foods that should give them no reason to be upset w/ your decision

Edit:  The only vitamin I started taking was a daily multivitamin by Nature Made to make sure I was getting enough iron

  7. If you don't eat meat when your mom puts it on your plate, then she'll stop putting on your plate if she's so thrifty. I think quitting meat is just like quitting anything. The first few days are the hardest, then each day gets slightly easier after that until you don't crave it at all anymore.

  8. It's actually really easy after a couple of months.

Of course, just stop eating meat. You also want to stay away from gelatin. There's a reason it rhymes with skeleton; It's made of crushed bones, flesh, and skin of animals.

You can find gelatin in marshmallows, jello, frosted pop-tarts, starburst, skittles, etc.

Also, some people think vegetarians can eat fish. THEY CAN'T.

If you have any meat cravings, try eating soy/mock meats. Some good brands are Boca, Morning Star, and Garden Burger. Hope that helped! Good luck!
