Vegetarianism..??

Hi I'm a very proud vegetarian. NO MEAT WHATSOEVER. Terrible thing; meat eaters...tsk tsk. Anywhoo....

People ask me time and time again, "Why did you become a vegetarian?" I'll answer, "because I do not believe in eating God's children." Then they'll find SOME way to argue with me, but pointlessly, as I am NOT changing my decision. How can I get these people just to SHUT UP?!?!

  1. Its just plain gross to eat meat. I dont want to eat flesh and blood. Most people who eat meat could not butcher the animal themselves, so why eat it? I could sure pick some berries or carrots and eat them and not feel bad.

Some meat eaters will give you a hard time just be educated in your answers the Gods children answer is too easy to argue, use something they cant argue with like would they eat their Parrot or cat or dog. I would not eat mine anymore than I would eat a pig, chicken or cow.

  2. well come to the world of vegetarian because of you more and more animals will save their lives thanks :)

Proteins: Body's protein needs can be provided by either animal or plant sources. Mixed protein diet obtained from various plant sources is better than animal protein and is recommended in diabetes, renal diseases and liver diseases. Mixed protein diet from different plant sources has been the pattern of diet in India for all vegetarians.

Carbohydrates: Carbohydrates are mainly found in plant foods; like cereals, grains, fresh and dry fruits, legumes, vegetable, greens, nuts etc. plant carbohydrates include' large amounts of starches, sugar and fibers which are important for gut functions. The body is better suited to a high carbohydrate diet than a low carbohydrate diet. In fact 55% of the food intake should be carbohydrate. All animal products do not contain carbohydrate which is essential for body.

Fat: Plant fats differ from animal fats in two different ways 1) they are cholesterol free 2) they generally contain more polyunsaturated fat and less saturated fats. Plant fats usually have higher polyunsaturated fat value than animal fats.

A diet which is low in cholesterol and which contains fat of a high PIS value is associated with a lower incident of coronary health disease.

Vitamins and Minerals: plant foods are rich in many vitamins and minerals.

Vitamin D: Vitamin D is obtained by exposure of skin to sun light and this is not a problem in India.

Calcium: The vegetarians can meet their needs for calcium from dairy products. Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) Dark green vegetables are good sources of Riboflavin as are legumes and whole grain cereal.

Iron: The problem of iron deficiency is relatively common but vitamin C significantly enhances absorption of iron hence it is advisable for vegetarians to include with each meal a food high in vitamin C which as lime, citrus fruits or juices.

Zinc: Zinc is found in large number of plant foods.

Fiber: Fiber is found only in vegetarian food like whole grain cereals, legumes, greens, fruits, vegetable etc.

Thus in vegetarian foods all requirement of nutrition for body growth and maintenance is fulfilled. One can have a complete and balanced diet provided we take enough food which is as close to nature as possible in maintaining sturdy and disease free body. It is equally helpful in curing many diseases.

    ADVANTAGES OF VEGETARIAN DIET:

More & more evidence is surfacing that directly links a prolonged non- vegetarian diet to diseases as cancers, heart diseases, diabetes, asthma just to name a few.

    1. LOGEVITY: Vegetarian can expect to live 4-10 years longer then the non-vegetarians.

" Source: Seventh day Adventists study

    2. LESS HEART DISEASE: Because of low fat, saturated fat and cholesterol content of the vegetarian diet the risk of heart disease is lowered. High blood cholesterol levels are associated with increased risk of heart disease.

    3. LESS CANCER: Up to 40% of all cancers are diet related. Cancer death rates have been associated with obesity and high fat / low fiber diet. Vitamin A & C are thought to be protective against colon cancer. Low fat diets protect against prostrate and breast cancer. Indoles, lignans, isoflavones, protease inhibitors which are present in plant foods and shown to be potent anti carcinogens.

    4. LESS BOWEL DISEASE: Diverticular disease and appendicitis occur more frequently with low fiber intake as in meat diet.

    5. LEES OBESITY & LESS INCIDENCE OF DIABETES: It is easier to plan a low fat diet for a vegetarian then for a meat eater. The fiber in plant food dilutes the energy & provides a satisfying meal without all the calories. Diabetes over the age of 40 seems to be related to obesity.

  3. Just tell them "for personal reasons" and if they insist, say "i hate to impose my beliefs on anyone, but I do not believe in eating Gods children"

Hopefully they will get the point and not bother you about it.

  4. "If you want to respect me as a person, respect my decision to be a vegetarian." The end.

Think about it, if they continue to find degrading or arguementative ways to put down and dissect your dietary habits, cut ties, they probably feel threatened by your decision and want to regain superiority by coming up with reasons why their diet is better and why you are silly. People with these types of dominating, "My way is better or else" attitudes just weigh you down with their negativity. Life is too short to constantly deal with bitter, mean-spirited people. If they are family, then respond with silence and make it VERY clear the conversation is over. Eventually they'll drop it. "Friends" though... are they really friends if they act this way?

You might want to stop saying judgemental statements like "Terrible thing, meat eaters". If you don't want to have others say "Terrible thing, vegetarians", begin by being an example of tolerance as well. You can advocate the practicality and healthiness of a vegetarian diet without being preachy and offensive. Remember, it'll be hard for a meat-eating person to respect you if you can't offer the same courtesy back.

  5. i get the exacttttt same questions!

just worry about youeself, you know you ARE doing the right thing, dont listen to if others if there saying rude remarks, because vegetarians will always be THE BEST and the most healthy!

  6. Terrible thing: Vegetarians...tsk tsk.....anywho...

The fruit and/or vegetables you eat are killed off their life source for you to consume...shame on you...

Why dont vegetarians just drink water and eat nothing. Then you're not eating anything that has to be killed or taken away from its life source...

  7. Well personally I have different beliefs from you, so I don't really know what to say about your answer. It's great that  you believe that, and I respect that, but because religion is different among people, they sometimes won't accept an answer that has to do with believing something specific, such as God created animals.

If that is your only reason, then stick to it. But you might also think about rephrasing your answer so that people who aren't very religious or have different beliefs can't argue with it: "I don't agree with the treatment of the (insert good adjective here i.e. poor, beautiful, wonderful, etc.) animals. People might be more likely to understand.

  8. You can point out some other reasons.

    1. Meat increases the risk of breast cancer. A 2007 study of 35,000 women published in the British Journal of Cancer found that women who ate meat were far more likely to develop breast cancer than women who consumed none.

    3. The meat industry is destroying the Earth. The only thing that's hot about the meat industry is that it's toasting the planet. According to the United Nations, raising animals for food causes more greenhouse-gas emissions than all the cars, trucks, SUVs, planes, and ships in the world combined.

    4. Meat will make you fat. All the saturated fat and cholesterol in chicken wings, pork chops, and steak eventually leads to flabby thighs and love handles.

    5. Eating meat steals food from starving kids. It takes up to 16 pounds of grain to produce just 1 pound of meat. If more people went vegetarian, we'd free up enough grain to feed every person in the world.

  9. how about not telling them you are a vegitarian?

don't say something unless you want to talk about it.

animals arn't God's children if you have read the bible or gone to church/sunday school.  If you are using religion as an excuse not to eat meat, i could just say that according to the bible, God gave us animals to eat!

  10. You don't have to defend your beliefs or proclaim that you are a veggie to everyone.

If people ask, and you don't want to talk about it, just say 'I would rather not talk about it' and change the topic. It works for me. =)
