Vegetarians- Do you have any advice on how I can get more Iron in my diet?

I have been a Lacto-Ovo Vegetarian for the last year. At my yearly physical my hemoglobin was low enough for me to be considered anemic. I'm following up with a Ferritin level to assure that it's iron defiency and not something else causing the anemia. I do drink Soy milk which I know can lower the bodies ability to adsorb iron from plants. any advice would be appreciated.

  3. Take Iron pills.

  4. im not sure if thrs iron in them but thr very gd 4 vegitarians houmas, lentals (try making dhal) and cus cus

  5. You can go to your local health food store and find vitamins and supplements made especially for you vegetarian diet and gender so everything keeps in tact. I take "Teen Girl Vitamins"- made for kosher and vegetarians.

  6. Cream of Wheat hot cereal is a good source of iron, leafy greens - you probably already know - are also.  Orange juice or vitamin C can help you body to absorb nutrients like iron.  My doctor told me that I should take my iron supplement with orange juice.  Drinking cola can restrict absorption, too.  All that coming from me - a "part-time" vegetarian ;-)  I hope it helps a bit.
