Someone answered my question and saidwhen you stop being a vegetarian and you go back to eating meat your body isn't used to it and you get sick. Is this true? Will I throw up or something if I go back to meat?

  1. Not necessarily.  Your body produces enzymes to digest whatever you eat.  If you are vegetarian for a long time, the body sometimes quits producing the enzyme needed to break down animal protein.  If you have been a lacto-ovo vegetarian, (meaning you still ate eggs and dairy), then your body would likely still be producing the enzymes needed to break down meat.  If you were vegan, the body may have stopped producing those enzymes at all.  If you choose to go back to eating animal protein, it would be best to start with a very small amount of an easily digestible meat protein, such as fish.  Your body will then start to produce the enzyme again, and you can slowly add meat back into your diet.  Each individual is different, so don't let someone convince you that you will throw up or get sick-the only way to know how YOU will react is to try it for yourself.  Some people DO get sick (just upset stomach mostly), but sometimes its just because others convinced them that they would.  Start slow, then add foods back in as you feel your body is ready for them.  You can get digestive enzymes to help, but your best bet would be to rely on your body-not supplements, to digest your foods.  Good luck, whichever you choose.

  2. Each person is an individual, unique and special unto themselves.  What happens with one person very well may not happen with you.

I get sick if I eat meat.  But I get sick because of the reaction with medication to the grease/oil from within the meat.

For someone else, maybe they will if they haven't eaten it in years.

For someone else, maybe they will because of the mental thought of it - nothing to do with a physical reason.

Then there are those that I have seen writing about going back to eating meat that have no problems at all.

    It is an individual thing.

If your concerned about it, talk to your doctor about it.

  3. im not sure, but if you go back to eating meat, i would assume you wouldnt want to eat to much at once because you might get sick (stomach ache, not death). I think this is true because in extreme cases, like with starving children, they cant give them too much in the begining because there bodies are not used to having food in itz system or something. So basically, i dont think you'll die if you eat meat again, but if you do maybe the first few times dont eat a huge portion. Im not sure if what im saying is right but it seems like it would make sense...

  4. ya you should go back to eating little bit of meat which makes your body strong and eat veg also.

  5. In my travels, I have sometimes had to make abrupt changes from one cuisine to a drastically different one. It made no difference to my digestion.

  6. Yeah you'll get a stomach ache. Your stomach will be screaming, you were feeding me so well and now you give me this junk again! LOL

  7. I wouldn't go back to eating meat, you don't need to know..

  8. yes it is true!  Ones body is like a vehicle for one to function on this earth.  If it is useto certain foods (fuels for the body)

and you do change  it will affect the body!  You could get sick!

  9. Depending on how long you have been a vegetarian you could get sick. You might even get more sick if you were eating mostly raw food.

Your worst case is a sore stomach or the runs. Nothing too major. lol

The opposite is also true. I eat meat and then I ate a bunch of raw food and it gave me the runs. lol

  10. I would have little bits of meat and have more and more if I were to go back.

  11. Well maybe...

It depends on your body itself...

In your place, I would never leave being a vegetarian
