  1. Not at all! Vegetarian for 5 years and with every day that goes by I'm happier and happier with my choice, and wonder what I was waiting for… What's there to miss about eating carcasses? Do to them what you want, but decomposition starts as soon as the poor thing is killed... It's the spices that make the meat taste good, which is why meat substitutes taste so great!

I've tried being a vegan though... I"ve made it through one year, but I couldn't do it for longer than that. I missed ice-cream and cheese too much...

  2. I'm going to have to piggyback a lot of the previous responders. I miss French onion soup like no one's business. It's not so much the cheese as it is the huge crouton and the onions. Yum! I also miss Meunster and Feta cheese. I just liked the flavor a lot.

I'll also miss my mother's tuna noodle casserole. It's always hard to abstain from comfort foods.

  3. I've been vegetarian for over 10 years now and I don't really miss anything. I sometimes think I'd like to eat barbecued octopus and love the smell of other people having a bbq, but I think this is just the nostalgic association of having that type social gathering with family and friends.

  4. I never liked the taste of meat so never missed it. I've been a vegetarian since my early 20's

  5. I'm a vegetarian NOT vegan..so i can still have milk products BUT yes..when i first started out i craved burgers but now i don't because it disgusts me out thinking about how the animal got slaughtered  to become the burger and its sad so..after 2months it all went away and now i dont crave it anymore!

  6. I'm sure they do, why else would vegans and vegetarians have mock meat products?

  7. All I miss is cheese. Cheese is my greatest temptation but I only have occasional craving for it.

  8. yes, i miss turkey! but nothing else. im used to everything now after 6 months of being a vegetarian.

  9. The only thing I really miss at all is sushi.

  10. Steak.

I mean there is really no substitute for it!

I've heard of something called the Unsteak, but have yet to actually find, let alone try it.

  11. Not really. I do miss ice cream though. Soy ice cream is gross. The only kind I have found that tastes okay is So Delicious (formerly Soy Delicious). I rarely eat it though. I only like it with some homemade vegan chocolate sauce. But, I can definitely live without it forever as I find milk to be disgusting now. Other than that, no. I just wish veganism was more convenient than it is when it comes to a busy lifestyle since most fast food places where I live do not care about vegan or vegetarian foods. There is only one veggie restaurant in my city which opened in 2007. I prefer to eat at home though, so I know what is going into my food. I don't want any hidden ingredients.

  12. i miss some foods......the one i miss most is (american style) biscuits and gravy.  i was raised as a southern girl, and oh my goodness did i love biscuits and gravy.

    i sometimes miss chicken, too.

more often than not it's the convenience i miss, not the food itself.  sometimes i just think about how it would be nice to go to a fast food place and actually be able to CHOOSE what i want instead of being limited to one item on the menu.

that said, convenience and my "comfort foods" are not worth giving up vegetarianism.

  13. I'm vegan.  I miss caramel.  I miss thick chewy cheese on pizza and mozzarella sticks, but I don't care much about cheese otherwise.  Soy cheese on pizza, in my experience, just doesn't cut it. I miss being able to get French onion soup in restaurants (beef broth and cheese)That's all I can think of right now.

  14. Basically I miss any and all food that my mom cooks. She has always been an amazing cook, and I don't get to enjoy it anymore. She does cook lots for my husband, which I have to enjoy vicariously through him.

Edit: There is vegan chocolate. Go to Target and check out their organic chocolate section. Green & Black has a few types (just look at the ingredients) that are vegan.

  15. Jerky. My dad used to buy those long round greasy Slim-Jims for me when I was little. I don't miss the meat or grease ( yuck), I miss the spices.

D.O.T.- I found a recipe for vegan mozz sticks using tofu and bread crumbs. I don't remember where I found it, but I'll look for it. The reviews said that when paired with marinara sauce, they tasted pretty darn close to the real thing. :)

    HERE IT IS!! :)

  16. The only thing I miss the taste of now is mozzarella sticks! The only things I can't find subs for! Oh yeah and the ocassional Krimpet craving, but I just remember how bad they are for you and forget all about them!

  17. No, not really.  I mean, it would be great it there was a really good vegan substitute for feta.  But if a little tangy cheese is all that's between me and my beliefs, my beliefs are going to win.

Sometimes it occurs to me that there are certain foods I'll never eat again.  It's not really "missing" those foods so much as a realization, "Wow, I'll never eat Milk Duds again."  It's always non-food, like candy, though so it's hardly a loss!

  18. I think it depends on the degree of interest the individual has in delicious, innovative, and varied food. Many people are not that interested in food, and dropping a large part of the potential food spectrum from their diets is no big deal for them. Those of us who love food - the cooking and eating of it - feel differently.

But one may note that vegetarian restaurants don't get three stars in Michelin!

  19. Do I ever! I miss my mom's pot roast, chicken and beef soup. I saw a Nathan's hot dog restaurant the other day which I always wanted to eat at before I became veg*n. There wasn't one in my city, so to finally see one on a trip to Texas was exciting, Then I realized, I can't have that and I never will be able to. It's stupid to be sad about it though because we are not being forced to do this. Some people may feel "forced" by their conscious, but either way we CAN eat those things. I just remember why I made the choice not to eat them and it makes the craving go away. It gets easier every day.

  20. Oh boy I miss chicken, and cheese.

    and chocolate :(

mmm chocolate. I know I can get rice milk chocolate but I've yet to get it.

And the chewy-ness of meat is different, I miss that too.

  21. I can usually find/make a vegan version of the food I miss. Except marshmallows, oh how I miss marshmallows...

  22. Honestly, no.

  23. Although it made me nauseated and sick a lot I sometimes miss cheese all kinds except cottage. I also sometimes miss chez-its, snickers and other junk foods like that. Anything else I might *miss* I could easily duplicate and veganize pretty much, I recently found out how to make awesome vegan Chez-Its, now I just have to find out how to make some vegan snickers.
