Question:

Vegetarians/Vegans: What if....?

Okay, I am a vegetarian and I have been that way for almost all of my life. My boyfriend was asking me during dinner what I would do if I was stuck on an island and I could not eat any plants because they were all poisonous. He asked what I would do. If I did not eat anything, I would starve. I am not sure what I would do if I was forced to eat animals or die. It's a good question I think, because if I live I have to eat animals, and if I die, the animals will end up eating me. I am not sure what I would do in the situation, but what would you do? Keep in mind there are barely any edible food except for animals.

  1. I would NOT eat the animals. I am a strict vegan and I just could not live with myself if I ate those animals.

They deserve life too. I would live off of the water around the island and bark off the trees. Maybe even some sand...yumm. :]

So I would befrend [sp] the animals and learn to speak their language. They would eventually tell me how to get off the island. And once I got home and safe, I wouldn't have the regret of eating an animal!!

  2. I'm a veggie 'cos I don't think meat tastes too hot.

I don't care about saving anything; I'd eat humans if that were legal and I liked them (I'll add this: why's that creepy? One can't come up with a decent reason as to why it is besides some c**p like: "it ain't the norm" or "ewewewew!" if we were used to it, it'd hardly be creepy. Get over yourselves, statusquoians. 'Sides, I hear we taste like pork.)

So, were I stranded, I'd eat the animals and suffer through my disgust.

  3. Like the person above me said without edible plants there will be no animals. You would have to catch crabs or fish and collect kelp to eat until you were rescued.

  4. i would tell him that it's a good thing that would never happen.  hypothetical questions are ridiculous....

  5. what if your boyfriend was with you on the island...he would certainly eat you....lesson...have a veggie boyfriend...

  6. i would eat animals im a veggie too but i would make sure none of the animal goes to waste i would eat all of it not just a bit.

  7. i would cryy...

I am not vegetarian, but i love animals. but then again..if you were on an island there is water(ocean) right there and obviously there is fish in the water so i would fish. and people can live for over 30 days without eating. i would only kill an animal if it was a last resort and i would do it humanly.

  8. Well that means the animals have to be eating the posionous plants so I definitely wouldn't be eating them.

In that situation, I'd probably just die because there is nothing to eat.

Evita,  that's just creepy if you would eat a human, you're own kind....

  9. depends do you want to live or die??

  10. If there are animals on the island to eat, than there must be a food source for them. Hypothetical situations are ridiculous enough when they are at least slightly plausible, but when there is not possible chance it is even more stupid.

The odds of you ever coming into that situation are not even measurable. Hypothetical situations are not even worth answering. There is no way to determine what you would do in a life and death situation, when you are sitting at home watching t.v and typing on your computer. When a person actually has to face the situation and decide if they want to live with the consequences after, is the only time when you know your answer will be right. Sitting at my computer it is easier to say, "No I'll never eat the animals, even if it costs my life." but when my life is on the line, who knows? Will starvation and the fear of dying win out over personal morals?

I personally don't think hypothetical questions are actually made to be answered. They are used to make you ponder over what you might do, and think about how the situation could change even a deep personal belief.

  11. Jesus H. Ted, can't omnivores come up with a more original question than this?  I've been asked this thousands of times, and every time, it was a STUPID question.  Your boyfriend just wants to hear you say that you'd eat meat so that he can feel like he "won" the "argument".

  12. Those animals wouldn't hesitate to eat you so I suppose you better step your game up and chow down!

  13. i would eat animals i guess, but it would be hard. not because of the inhumanity involved, just because i have only tried one type of meat in my life, beef [by accident] and it was the most disgusting thing i've eaten in my life. plus all types of meat looks extremely gross. the only kind i'd ever eat is tandoori chicken, which looks oddly yummy to me....

but wait, i dont know how to cook the animals or remove the weird parts. so it would probably be poisonous anyway. AUGH i dont know!!!! i guess i'd eat the animals though.

  14. what do the animals eat?

  15. Fire up the grill and lets eat!!

  16. Being a vegetarian or a vegan, in my opinion, is all about values. I'm a vegetarian because I value animals. However, I also value myself. You should value yourself over anything in the end. Therefore, to survive, eating animals would have to be done.

  17. I have never heard of an island with all poisonous plants... but I'll play along. It would not be cruel or unusual to kill and eat animals for survival. It is perfectly kosher and once put in that situation, you are competing for your life. It's eat or be eaten. LIVE! Survive on the thought that someday you may be rescued and make your family so happy that you lived. They could care less about the animals on this poisonous plant island.

  18. after seven days. i would eat a little bit of the plant. either i die or i just got to eat me some food. if i lived. each day i would eat a little bit more. either my body will get use to it or i would die. but my lips are not getting anywhere near any animal.

why would your bf ask you such a cruel question?

  19. hehe. for those of us who are vegetarians for health reasons, the answer is much easier: I'd eat them animals.

  20. That's a silly question he asked.  Without edible plants..there would be no animals.
