  1. Although PETA does not run an adoption facility (they refer most adoptable animals to well-known shelters with a high rate of public traffic), they have managed to place hundreds of animals in excellent lifelong homes. For many of the animals they do accept (such as those who are severely injured, aggressive, or otherwise unadoptable) they are often a "shelter of last resort" offering a humane death to animals who would otherwise suffer a slow and painful end.

While some of the animals they take in are lost companion animals or adoptable strays, many of the animals they receive are broken beings for whom euthanasia is, without a doubt, the most humane option. To cite a local instance, their caseworkers were able to gain custody of a dog who was tied to a 15-pound chain and who was starved until she was severely emaciated. They had to carry her into the emergency clinic because she could barely walk. A vet recommended that the most humane option for her was a peaceful and dignified release from her suffering. They pursued criminal charges against those responsible for her condition, leading to their convictions for cruelty to animals.

On another occasion, when a power-line transformer explosion burned a flock of starlings, PETA was the only agency to come to the bird's aid, offering the animals a painless escape from their suffering.

PETA receives calls every week from people who do not have the inclination or money to provide veterinary care. Many of these people request that they euthanize their animals because they cannot afford to have them euthanized by a vet or because the animals would suffer excessive stress and pain if they were transported. PETA will not turn its back on these animals simply because they might make their "numbers" look bad.

Unlike "no-kill" shelters, PETA does not refuse animals simply because euthanasia is the only humane option for them. Many of the animals they take in are given to them because they have been rejected by other facilities.

Also, if people would spay and neuter their companion animals like they are supposed to, there wouldn't be the dog and cat overpopulation crisis we have today. There are over 6 MILLION homeless companion animals in the United States alone. They cannot all be saved.

I also have to note that PETA shouldn't have anything to do with your decision to go veg. If you go veg, it should be because you care about animals, the environment and your health. Animals raised for food are severely mistreated and they deserve better. By adopting a vegan diet, you can save 100 of them every year.

  2. im not a vegan or a vegetarian but thats really sad if its true :[

  3. I can't believe someone would kill animals!

    I love animals!

I'm a vegetarian and I would never be able to hurt a creature. I hope PETA goes down!

  4. Kudos to you for researching PETA instead of blindly believing them!

You don't need PETA to be vegetarian or vegan. There are plenty of other sources of information out there to get information on your nutrition and eating a balanced diet.

    PETA kills animals: http://www.petakillsanimals.com/

    Petakillsanimals an *extremely* well-researched site.

PETA is a tax exempt organization, so their tax returns are available to the public. Also, since they are classified as a humane society, they have to return the statistics of animals they take in and what happens to them, also public domain.

Here are examples of GOVERNMENT documents that verify the information on petakillsanimals. They have sourced and documented everything on their website.

    - 2004 - http://www.virginia.gov/vdacs_ar/cgi-bin...

    - 2005 - http://www.virginia.gov/vdacs_ar/cgi-bin...

    - 2006 - http://www.virginia.gov/vdacs_ar/cgi-bin...

    - (2007 statistics not yet recorded on this website)

Do most shelters have to eutahnize animals? Sadly, yes. Animals are euthanized beause of issues such as health, temperament, and lack of space in the shelter.  Unfortunately, It's impossible to save them all.

    But PETA is different!!!!!

There have been numerous reports from local animal shelters in the area of PETA's headquarters that say PETA comes and tries to get animals from them. And that PETA *competes with them* so people bring their animals to PETA instead of the local shelter. What does PETA do with the animals (highly adoptable animals) that they get? They euthanize them.

PETA is an extremist group that has the goal of the **extinction** of domestic animals (livestock, service dogs, police dogs, even pet dogs and cats!).

They pull people in with the "we love animals!" hook, and unfortunately many people don't look beyond that initial idea. PETA is a horrible group! I believe that most PETA members have no idea what they are even supporting.

PETA's "undercover films" aren't to be believed.

    Some suggested reading about PETA:

    http://www.activistcash.com/organization...

    http://www.purebredcatbreedrescue.org/an...

    http://www.targetofopportunity.com/anima...

I also could never NEVER support a group that intentionally inflicts psychological damage to children and tries to get to the parents by USING the children and attempting to make the children fearful of their own parents. They have handed out the following comics to children:

Your Mommy Kills Animals - http://www.furisdead.com/feat-momfur.asp

Your Daddy Kills Animals - http://www.fishinghurts.com/feat-newcomi...

And they donate to domestic terrorist organizations such as ALF (Animal Liberation Front) and ELF (Earth Liberation Front).

I don't have all the information handy, but at one point a year or so ago, I decided to read through the PETA site. What I found was a wealth of mis-information and information skewed to support their "cause".

They want everyone to be vegan. I have no problem with people choosing to be vegetarian/vegan, it's their own personal choice, but it's just that: a *choice*. People have the right to choose if they want to be vegetarian/vegan, or if they want to eat an omnivorous diet.

And PETA also wants dogs and cats to be vegetarian/vegan. Now *that* I have major problems with. Animals should be fed a diet that is appropriate for their species; for dogs and cats, that diet should include meat.

Here's a video that shows their hypocrisies: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9ijLulwU...

(Disclaimer: the guys narrating the video use some strong language, if that offends you, don't want it.)

PETA also tries to make fake organizations to try to make themselves not look so bad. Here's such an example (note that they won't admit anywhere on the page that they are PETA): http://consumerdeception.com/

In short, they are a destructive group that go about things completely the wrong way. They "protest" by interfering with others in ways that should not be done.

    * They disrupted VS fashion show a couple years ago: http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2002/11/1...

    * Although they have discontinued the practice, they used to attack people with spray-paint that were wearing fur coats. (Their website now says "if you have a fur coat, donate it to a homeless person.")

(There are numerous other examples, you can do a search on the internet and find them.)

PETA is one of those organizations that the more knowledge you have about them, the more you realize how bad they are.

I love animals. I love my pets. Which is why I believe in animal WELFARE, not animal rights.

    http://www.sover.net/~lsudlow/ARvsAW.htm

    http://www.animalwelfarecouncil.com/html...

Animal welfare = treat animals humanely.

Animal rights = extinction of domestic animals.

    .

  5. PETA is not an organization to look up to. The only thing that they do is polarize.

PETA kills animals because there is no place for these animals to go.

    Every SPCA kills animals.

    Every Human Society kills animals.

People that care about animals are forced to euthanize millions every year because people are too stupid to spay/neuter their pets, give them decent vet care or care for them properly in general.

Blaming PETA for killing animals is like blaming them for the existence of abusive and neglectful morons.

No matter how many delusional people there are that pretend that there is a loving home for every animal, it won't be true until enough people learn to get their animals fixed
