Vegetarians; how do you feel about the Wendy's comercial?

If someone was a "meatatarian" meaning they only eat meat, why was there a bun and cheese on his burger? Is anyone else annoyed with this commercial? I feel like their mocking vegetarians when they say "it's a personal choice" And what about that bk commercial cheating on beef? I always change the channel how do you feel?

  1. Ok, now I'm not trying to offend any vegetarians here. I believe in everybody's right to live according to their own beliefs. But let's face it. We live in a world where popular culture makes fun EVERYBODY. Gender, age, race, creed, color, ethnicity, religion, social class, or, in this case, choice of lifestyle: NOBODY IS SAFE FROM IT, and that's especially true when you are in the minority, you have to grow some thicker skin. That commercial is just seeking to parody the fact that some people are a little annoyed by vegetarians, because some of them (not saying all or even anybody on here) do have a tendency to act as though they are better than other people because of it. People need to learn not to take everything so personally. You can't be much of a fun person to be around if you can't lighten up and laugh at yourself a little once in awhile. Be a vegetarian or anything else you want to be, it's fine. But if you're confident in yourself and strong in the beliefs you've chosen, it shouldn't be hard for you to shrug it off when someone makes a generalized gouge at your choice or state of being. Learn to lighten up and get on with things. There's always going to be people making jokes at other people's expense and everyone needs to learn to deal. Now I know there's gonna be some people here that are not going to like this, so bring on the thumbs down if you want, but I encourage some of you to think about it.

  2. I agree completely!!! In fact, I was so upset by the Wendy's commercial, I took the time to write them concerning their ignorant ad. I realize my activism will probably be fruitless, but it makes me sleep a little better at night knowing I said my piece. It's obvious these commercials are sad attempts at trying to lure people back into eating meat/fast food. I think Americans are evolving and becoming more aware of environmental, social, and animal issues that are reflected in our diet. Bottom line, bacon (especially from Wendy's) is bad for you! I don't know how you can spin that fact with a "meatatarian" campaign.

Eat well, live well. There is no excuse to eat fast food.

  3. I personally hate it and really dislike wendys for doing it. I know they sell meat, but that burger is so unhealthy and will cause so many health problems to people, then they kind of make it sound like it is cool and good to eat buttloads of meat, which just kills more people.

I wish we could sue wendys for it, but alas, food abuse is not one that we can sue over.

  4. i think that you are overreacting. i get where you are coming from, but as a vegetatian, i dont think they mean anything offensive.

  5. the meatatarian is funny evn if it dosnt make sense but evn tho the other is like "funny" it actually sad i mean the cow dosnt want to be eaten! my dad who dosnt speak english thnk its about a guy who has a cow as a pet is eating a burger and is feeling guilty i think they shud that if they want to use a cow......and the sad cows are like the saddest thing to me somhow theyr not evn my fav animal but still.....the meatatarian is ok but i hope PETA attax the other one:(

  6. It obviously makes the guy look really stupid.  Everyone knows that meat is not good for you.  So, in a way, it's funny, because being a "meatatarian" is ridiculous and everyone knows that; even meat eaters.

  7. I find it a little offensive. Like, I put up with enough flak from everyone about what goes into my mouth and now theyre mocking me on commercials too?

    >=(

  8. I'm a vegetarian but, truthfully, the commercial doesn't bother me that much.  It's done very tongue-in-cheek.  I see the humor.

  9. The fast food industry would go bankrupt without advertising and convenience.  I know from talking to meat eaters that the burgers are not really very tasty compared to a gourmet, grass fed organic hamburger.  They are full of high fructose corn syrup and trans fats to make them palatable.  The fact that they are extremely cheap is what keeps people coming back.

Therefore, they have to advertise as much as possible.  One stereotype that is prevalent in this country is that a vegetarian is a wussy, girly-man.  Real men eat cows and pigs and chickens (and sheep, and baby cows, etc.)!  Real men don't care about the suffering of animals!  They are too busy putting rotting flesh in their colons!

Real men die of heart disease from animal fat!  Every American knows that!  These commercials play to and reinforce those stereotypes.  From what I hear, they do quite well.

  10. I only eat meat and protein. I do eat oats and dairy foods also. I just do not eat any vegetables. I don't like them so i don't eat them everyone has the right to make choices and people should respect that. I do not judge a vegetarian for the choice they made or give them any lip when they do not eat meat.

  11. It doesn't really bother me, but it does kind of make the guy look a little stupid. I like Wendy's and all, and that was clever for them to come up with it, but I mean, it is kind of mean.

Wendy's is kind of saying that vegetarians are like this when you ask them if they eat meat (which is a rude stereotype), but guess what? Wendy's whole entire goal right there was for you to remember that commercial and tell people about Wendy's new beefy burger. Now you have told an bunch of people and just made Wendy's tons of bucks! Congrats! ^_^

  12. I don't like them, and I don't think they should have said some of the lines they did....But whatever, they can go ahead and say whatever they want.

Everyone has a different opinion. Just because someone goes ahead and makes a dumb commercial it doesn't mean that everyone that watches it will find it funny or anything...

Everyone has their own opinions, so...yeah...

It isn't just about the meat thing, it is also about how they tempt people into eating such unhealthy foods and making it sound healthy........Though I guess that that is just a part of business...

  13. I don't watch commercials. That's what the remote control is for. It's just a sales gimmick, anyways. Vegetarians obviously aren't the target audience.

There is no such thing as a meatatarian either. Even the target audience knows this. I guess some are just more sensitive than others when it comes to issues they disagree with. They always do an "invocation" before a Nascar race and I turn the sound off every time. Do I moan about it? No.

  14. They are mocking vegitarians, which is why it's so funny.

  15. I know exactly what you mean.  It pisses me off.  My husband and I are vegan.  My hubby said the same thing about the bun and the cheese.  They are just insensitive and money-hungry morons.

  16. It didn't offend me, my boyfriend said the same thing about the bun and he eats meat. Vegetarians eat bread and cheese it's vegans that don't so if the there was such a thing as a meatatarian I guess that could apply too. I don't think they intended to offend, it is true in today's society however you eat is a personal choice. I think it is funny.

  17. I think it's a commercial and that's it.  I think people that get offended so easily have nothing better to do but b*tch and complain.  Seriously, have you asked yourself why you let it get to you?  What is the purpose? Are you getting a more fulfilling life out of complaining about a commercial?

  18. Actually, I do feel disgusted every time that commericial comes on. I also do feel that is IS an insult to us vegetarians. Wendys suck anyways and so do those stupid pathetic commercial writers...
