I started being a vegetarian about 2-3 weeks ago. People are telling me that I need to get some kind of protein to replace what the meat contains. What can I eat or do?

Thanks.

  1. I have same problem...eat rice and beans together...great protein...oh go 2 Wal-Mart and get protein mix to put on cereal, oatmeal, and in smoothies...u can get it flavored two (vanilla chocolate, etc etc etc)

  2. You can get plenty of quality protein from a vegetarian diet.

There are a lot of meat substitutes out there that are most likely also fortified with some vitamins/minerals for the vegetarian lifestyle.

Soy, beans, nuts, and some veggies can be great sources of protein.

    Nutritional yeast is great too!

Here is a link that might help you out as it shows servings and how many grams of protein they hold. You can also find the vegan food pyramid from it.

  3. For an extra source of protein, trying eating more peanuts or peanut butter

  4. Congrats on going veg!

Good vegetarian sources of protein include almonds, black beans, cashews, fake meats, garbanzo beans (chickpeas), kidney beans, lentils, lima beans, peanut butter, pinto beans, seitan, soybeans, soymilk, sunflower seeds, textured vegetable protein (TVP), and tofu.

Combining certain foods isn’t necessary. Eating an adequate number of calories each day -- made up of any normal variety of plant foods -- gives us all the protein we need.

  5. Ask the folks who ask you about protein if they've ever heard of kwashiorkor.  Then ask them where they get their fiber.

Look, as long as you're eating enough calories, and as long as they aren't mostly junk food, you're going to get enough protein.  Eat a varied diet, and you'll be fine.

And go to www.vrg.org for nutritional information.

  6. you can try vegetarian human............

  7. I strongly reccomend eating at least one vegetable with every meal. And having beans at least once a day 3-4 times a week.

Beans are VERY high in protein. So are dark green vegetables, like broccoli.
