  1. Yes they have to do that because they don't get enough protein. Just thought you might find this interesting. If you lack protein you will crave unhealthy forms of carbohydrates.

  2. of course! :]

  3. once in a while so i dont get too bored of being vegan, not much variety to bring vegan but i find new things every now and then to keep me from eating junk food :)

junk food i eat: chips, pop and candy

  4. Sort of...I have my own definition of "junk food" and I eat things like: (unsalted tortilla) chips and salsa, veggies and hummus, homemade sorbet and the like.

I consider that "junk" whereas many would consider it healthy.

As far as pre-packaged c**p like Chips Ahoy, Lay's, Ben & Jerry's and so on, absolutely NOT. That stuff will kill you.

  5. What I consider to be my "junk food" would be other people's healthy food.  Such as non-dairy ice cream, natural organic sugary cereal, organic chips, or deep fried foods, etc.  They are all treats for me from time to time.  I try to stick to other things to treat myself to such as avocados, or dates, or figs, cashews, almonds, and things like that which are expensive around here.

  6. Depends what you mean by junk food. Based on the wikipedia and google dictionary defining of junk food: food that is unhealthy and/or has little or no nutritional value, contains high levels of refined sugar, white flour, trans fat and polyunsaturated fat, salt, and numerous food additives such as monosodium glutamate and tartrazine; at the same time, it is lacking in proteins, vitamins and fiber, among other healthy attributes.

Actually I don't then. I do consume foods that might be perceived as unhealthy and may have high calories or fat but have other nutritional values and low in sodium and bad fats such as desserts, chips (such as vegetable, kale, corn, etc), etc all veganzied.

  7. yep. But not too much of it, it's not good for health in excess.

  8. I would eat a lot of junk food when I was a vegetarian (as any teenager did), but then I went vegan and just absent-mindedly started eating very healthy. Now I'm back to just vegetarian again and I eat junk food every so often but not much as I used to. And I also stopped eating fried foods when I went vegan and now I still never eat it. I didn't realize how crappy it used to make me feel! But one junky food I never gave up was Dr. Pepper.

  9. just a little bit every now and then.  some chocolate or a few french fries or something.  though some foods i will just never eat.

  10. once in a while. when im on the road a lot i eat fritos.

  11. si

  12. Now that I am vegan I find only a few junk foods to be vegan. I usually loved sweets but all the cookies and cakes I loved have milk/whey in them. So I only eat soy ice cream (like a pint a week lol)

    Its soooooo good!

  13. eating a vegi cheese burger right now!

  14. To John D's response... just because someone is vegan or vegetarian does not mean they/we are lacking in protein. Beans and soy are excellent sources of protein. As are nuts and grains. Good sources of junk food for me are Oreos, unfrosted poptarts, and Peanut Butter Captn Crunch cereal!

  15. Turtle Mountain peanut butter zig zag frozen soy milk dessert.

    (Yes, occasionally)

dark chocolate bars with fruit and/or nuts.

    coffee

wow, thats all I can think of actually...no wonder Im losing weight!

  16. I hate junk food. It tastes like c**p. The main thing that turned me off was when we went camping and pretty much all we brought was doritos and cheetos. It became so gross, when I got home I went to town on a bowl of baby carrots and ranch.

  17. Depends on what you mean by "junk food."  Being vegan, 99% of all junk foods are already eliminated from my diet.

But yeah, I occasionally indulge.  About once a month, I'll splurge on Oreos or french fries.

  18. Since I'm health conscious, I generally avoid junk food. Also if you are vegan or vegetarian you must be really careful before you eat any processed foods (including junk food) because they often contain animal ingredients that you're not aware of. Egs: gelatin, red food colouring (from beetles), rennet, bone char for bleaching white sugar... etc.

My solution to this problem is having only vegan-safe treats. Such examples are vegan chocolate (try Sweet Williams - they're the BEST!), peanut brittle, dried fruits, and some yummy asian desserts from time to time. A great jelly substitute is agar agar (seaweed and almond jelly). It's delicious and vegan, and you don't have to worry about animal gelatin.
