i saw another question on this and i'm very confused, why do you think if your eating chicken or beef in liquid form that it is not meat? and that you are still a vegetarian? i'm just curious what the thought process is on this. how is eating chicken fat in liguid form different than eating it off a bone?

i'm not talking about chicken "flavoring" where you can buy seasing FOR chicken that doesn't have chicken in it. chicken broth or beef broth is meat, it's fat, meat, etc. ground up and cooked as a liquid "broth"

your not a vegetarian if you eat meat (Duh) why would you be for drinking meat?

  1. You are right you are not a vegetarian if you consume meat.

IMO,being  vegetarian  seem to be a popular craze among younger people who are trying to fit in somewhere.   Thus they confuse the real structure of what it is to go "meat-less".

I know several people who do not eat meat, but they have horrible diets.  Striving for a balanced diet is much more important than being a carnivour or vegetarian.  I am not a vegeatarian but have cut out beef  out of my diet,  and when we do have meat, I try to make sure I am only having small portions, filling up on veggies and carbs.  I fill better for it, but the thought of giving up fish and bacon are just more than I can stand.       jst my thoughts and life.

EDIT*  I'm not sugesting that all young people are confused about being a vegetarian, I'm suggesting that many are. That is why their are so many questions asking ...what is it? can I have this? would I still be if I did this? etc......

  2. actually, that person says in thier comments that they now believe they are not vegetarian.

So, although she chose an answer for the wrong reasons, she drew the right conclusions

she asked, she learnt, she changed her view. Doesn't that deserve a bit of credit ?

how can you tell her comments were sarcastic ? rather than shoot her down, maybe ask her if she was being sarcastic ?

  3. Yeah, I would have to disagree that she understands any differently now.

she clearly states "it's NOT meat" then the "lmao" in her comment indicates that she thinks everyone else was being anal by adhering to the truth.

She obviously chose best answer so know one else could disagree with her.

  4. I'm a veggie (and I'm 16 - and it's not just a popular phase, as someone suggested - I've been veggie since I was four =P ) and wouldn't drink chicken broth, or anything cooked in meat juices. Alot of people call themselves veggie when they aren't truly veggie: some examples are those who eat fish and those who eat chicken. A true veggie wouldn't drink chicken broth. =]

  5. I saw that question earlier.  I love who she chose as best answerer.  They are meant to be together.  Maybe they can be best friends.  Perhaps we should buy them 1-way plane tickets to as far away as we can afford:)

Consuming animal juice is still consuming animals.  I agree.

  6. Of course people who eat chicken or beef broth are not vegetarian.  Yet.  They are probably on their way, however.  Most people eliminate meat first, THEN they start reading ingredients.

People who eat gelatin and rennet aren't strictly vegetarian either- but I wouldn't challenge a person for calling themselves one.

We could literally change the world, if people just quit eating BEEF.  I wouldn't want to discourage someone from making a positive change, by focusing on the byproducts.

EDIT- Okay, I'm wrong. (just read the question and answer to which you refer.)  The people in the link you posted are just ignorant.

Hey- does "liquid meat" make anyone else think of the SNL commercial for the "Bassmaster"?

  7. No vegetarian consumes chicken or beef broth.

Just as no veggie eats fish or chicken.

  8. It's true, you are not a vegetarian if you drink meat, or gelatin in Gummy Bears, but that is another story.  However, there still is the mindset out there that chicken isn't meat, and neither is the broth.  You're not the one who is confused.

My 12 year old son is a vegetarian and we were on vacation in South Carolina.  My son asked the waitress what they had on the menu that was completely vegetarian.  She said he could order the chicken...  The look on my son's face was priceless and I had never laughed so hard.  She was dead serious!  My son then asked the question again... "What do you have that doesn't have a face on it?", she said, "Oh, order the rice or beans."  lol

I am proud to live in New England where most can distinguish the flora from the fauna.

  9. i'm with you on this one.....

i answered that question and it was RIDICULOUS.

i don't see how people find it so hard to understand that vegetarians don't eat meat or other products that require the death of an animal.

i think it's hilarious that the poster picked the answer that agreed with her despite the fact that the answer was obviously wrong.

honestly though, i tend to just blow off the people that you can tell are just veg for attention.  these kids who call themselves pesco-pollo-vegetarians, or those who say that they're veg when they still drink CHICKEN STOCK, etc......you can tell they're just trying to be trendy or get attention.  i don't put much weight on their opinions, to be honest with you.  IMO, if you're not following the rules that's fine.  eat what you want...be happy.  but don't call yourself something you aren't.

otherwise.....okay.....i have two dogs that i care for and feed......i'm going to tell everyone i'm a zookeeper!  that's what happens when you start throwing definitions out the window.

  10. I've not heard of veggies doing this, but I agree it seems very odd that one would drink but not eat animal products.

  11. Vegetarians don't eat chicken or beef broth. Not sure where you heard that.
