Veggies and spiders?

Question

Ok, this question is for the people who chose to become Veggies due to ethical reasons.

I have a massive fear of spiders; if any of my family are around they usually catch them for me but if not I have to kill them by throwing a book at it or a very long handles broom..... I don't want to hurt it but I can't stand being in the room. Are there any ways to remove them humanely ...... from at least six feet away?

Sweetie you house has spider food in it. Until you get rid of the tiny bugs that spiders eat, you will have spiders. Spiders are the good guys so if you kill them without solving your other bug problem you will just have more bugs.

I understand your fear I too really dislike spiders.  I wouldn't suck them up the hoover though because this does not kill them it just deposits them inside your hoover & they always find a way back out!!!  I get like a mental block when I see one & cannot kill it myself as I just freeze to the spot & cannot move.  They seem to be getting bigger year by year as well!

lol i know what you mean, they are my biggest fear, i cant even look at them, i usually take an hour to move closer to it, then put a glass over it until my boyfriend gets home from work, them he will just pick it up like its nothing and put it outside, then proceeds to laugh at me for the next hour.

Honestly, I only use the jar trick which means you have to get alittle closer.

      Its REALLY hard to get rid of a spider and not kill it, and most vegetarioans i know kill them anyway.

I am arachnophobic myself.  From six feet, the best thing is to kill them as quickly as you can.  No need to suffer because we have irrational fears.  :)

Dont do it spiders mate for live and are vengeful if you kill a spider its mate will hunt you down ans lay eggs in your hair when you are asleep

So, it is not ok to kill sheep, cattle, chickens etc- but it is perfectly fine to squash a perfectly harmless spider. God, you veggies are so weird. Hypocracy personified.

You can get a device you can get that picks up spiders from a distance; called spider catches.

you can get spider catcher things that trap them until you release them.You could always just pop a glass over it until someone else could remove it for you. just please dont kill mr spidey :)

I have a veggie daughter and I have to pick the bloody things up for her and deposit in the garden whilst doing no harm (to the spider of course, she wouldn't care if it bit me)

I do not allow spiders or other insects in my home. If I see one I bust out a can of raid and torch the little bugger.

The same with mice and other pests. If I cant kill them, I'll pay an exterminator to get them.

You can spray it with a water bottle that has jet spray sorta. Then it will fall. Spray it again and capture it and let it loose... lol

brr i hate spiders to. i think their just called spider catchers or something but its usually like a mild hoover and or random spiky things that suck the spider up then releases it when you let go of a button good luck

put a piece of realy stiky tape at the end of a broom then have the spider stik to it and then shake it outside

You're going to have to think through your priorities.  You and spiders can coexist.  They're not going to do you any harm.  If they cause you to have panic attacks, get help.

On the other hand, you could decide that your humaneness doesn't extend to spiders and suck them up the vaccuum cleaner.

Well.

I'm a vegetarian and feel similarly- what I do I would do is get like, a bit of paper, and then move towards the spider with the bit of paper in front of you, then cover the spider with the bit of paper, and pick it up with the paper in between the spider and your hand, then throw it outside.

That way, the spider still lives and you don't really see it.

I am exactly the same as you!!! I am vegetarian and really hate any cruelty towards all living creature. But when it comes to spiders im completely illogical, usually im lucky there will be someone there to help me out, but the only think I can think when I see a spider is "get rid of it!!".

Ive seem some devices you can use which gently picks them up, so you can put them outside. There a thing with a long stick, which means you dont have to get too close to it, theres also a hover that sweeps them up without suffocating them.
