Question:

Vegitarian campfire food, veggie dogs?

i'm going camping this weekend, and I don't know what to bring that I can eat. It's just me and my husband, and I'm a vegitarian but he's not. I thought about those veggie dogs, but I've never tried them, and I don't know if they would roast like a hot dog, and if they are any good. I mean, I've tried the boca burgers before, and they are awful. I don't want to take any thing like that and then not be able to eat it.

And are there any other suggestions of food that's simple to make I could bring. Also, what about breakfast foods. Thanks

  1. Smart dogs are wonderful , in fact ,your husband wouldn't even know he was eating a vegetarian hot dog if you didn't tell him.  I agree boca burgers are really bad. Costco sells a vege burger that I think you will really like. Alternatives for meat in a burger- eggplant, it is hearty and takes on any flavor you use to cook or marinate it in. A vegetarian chili is fantastic on a bun  it makes like a vege sloppy joe, just add some onions, cilantro, mustard or what ever you like.

    Breakfast is a little harder

    - If you have a cooler- bagel,  cream cheese, jam

    -cerial w/ soy milk

  2. When I camp..I bring lots of veggies and seasonings to make veggie packets, fruit, whole wheat bread, pasta salad, vegetarian baked beans and much more.  You can almost make anything you make at home.

  3. Black bean burgers!

    Roasted veggies. Trail mix.

  4. my husband and i just went camping, but we were gone for quite a while so we couldn't bring perishable items.  here are some of the things we brought:

    -instant oatmeal

    -energy bars

    -pop tarts

-cereal and shelf-stable, individual soy milk packages

    -trail mix

    -granola bars

    -small boxes of raisins

    -red beans and rice

    -canned (vegetarian) chili and chips

    -pasta and marinara sauce

-my hubby brought tuna and crackers for himself

-dehydrated camp meals (from an extreme sports outfitter...kind of expensive but TOTALLY worth it)

-"thai noodle cart" meals that you make with boiling water

-peanut butter, jelly, and bread for pb & j sandwiches

-vegan marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers for s'mores =)

have fun on your trip =)
