Veg@ns/Vegetarians and tattoos?

I found this quite interesting, as I was planning on getting a tat in the near future.

I don't need a tattoo, compassion is part of who I am and I recognise that, I'd be betraying everything I am to go back now. I think I'll stick with a wrist band, but for those who don't mind tattoos, why not?!

there is so much more than not eating meat to a vegetarian/vegan.  I mean, glycerin, and gelatin, all this c**p they put in stuff.  I had to change my yogurt, which had gelatin.  and all my vitamins had it too...now  i may have to go check my shampoos and soaps...as for the tat, i would make sure you know what your getting put on you skin!!!

You should be able to find a tattoo artist that uses vegan ink with a few phone calls.   It isn't that rare anymore.

There are vegan tattoo salons, and even if the salon/artist you want to go to isn't exclusively vegan, you can ask them to order vegan ink for your work.  You will likely have to pay for it, but any professional artist shouldn't object to getting it for you.  You are, after all, paying them to provide a service.  

I had my three done before I was vegan and before it ever occurred to me that tattoo ink might not be veg-friendly.  If I get another, I will either go to the vegan salon in my city or I will go back to the artist whose work I've been really happy with and ask her to order vegan ink for me.  I have no doubt whatsoever that she'll do it (and I have no doubt whatsoever that her salon has done it before.)
