Question:

Vehicle Lighting Question?

I'm in the process of putting together a small "float" for a local organization. It's essentially built on a go cart frame so it's not as though it's a big deal. The problem is there is no alternator or any way to charge a battery and keep it charged while in use.

I need to have 8-10 small marker lights on this thing, the kind you would put on a trailer. I don't know what they draw but they are all naturally 12 volt lights. I also need to have a revolving light on the top and this is also 12 volt and draws 1.7 amps.

I wanted to be able to hook this up to a standard vehicle battery that I can charge before hand and just mount in the back of the "float". I'll also put in a simple on/off switch and a flasher unit to finish it off.

Does anyone have an idea how long a standard car battery will keep these lights lit before it runs out of juice? If I can get an hour out of it I'd be happy. Thanks

  1. i think you will deffinitly get an hour out of it. as long as it is a good battery maybe a truck battery. but i can play music in my car with the subwoofers on low for about 45 mins before the battery starts to die.these are small lights right? if they are my non profesional opinoin would say youll be fine. to be sure test it out the day before.

  2. id think more than an hour bc its not tht those light are pulling 12V bc tht is the max they can pull most likly theyll pull like 3V if tht each, and theyll have very low amps so youll be fine for a few hours. if you wanted to b safe get 1 of those battery jumpers and hook it up to it.
