Vehicle tax/sorn off road?

if u buy a vehicle with no sorn off road details or tax are you liable to pay any backdated sorn or tax?if you cannot contact the previous owner what do u do?

  1. If you buy a vehicle with no sorn  that means the vehicle

    already has no tax so it is illegal to drive on the road.

    If you could not contact the owner how did you manage

    to buy the vehicle in the first place.

If you have the MOT certificate and some insurance, then go to the post office and fill out a form there.  You should be able to get car tax.  I can't imagine that you would have to pay anything that the previous owner was liable for, so get it taxed yourself quickly.  You could also call the DVLA for advice.

  3. You're not liable for any duty prior to the date of purchase, just SORN the car as soon as you get it. I assume you have the V5 that was signed & dated when you bought the car.
